Brent was born in Fort Smith, NWT, and grew up in Prince Albert, SK, with his parents Cal & Twila, and his three siblings Bryan, Lisa, and Lynn. Later they moved together to Victoria, BC. This was where he would start his family. Brent and Madeline married in 1999, and had three children, Peter, Julia, and Blair.
Brent Graduated Royal Military College, served in the regular force, then the reserve force while he worked as a teacher throughout British Columbia & Alberta. Later he returned full-time to the Canadian military where he was deployed twice to Afghanistan as an Officer and served in several other parts of Canada. Following many years Brent transferred to the Navy, traveling at sea many times. After some time, Brent re-directed his career to work as a Civilian with the Fleet School in Victoria, combining his passions for the Navy with his earlier experience as a teacher.
Throughout his life Brent enjoyed many hobbies, most notably he spent his time motorcycling with Vancouver Island Veterans UN-NATO, he liked Acting, doing work as background cast for a few productions as well as being very involved in the community. Brent loved to play the Trombone, Piano, and had a deep appreciation for music/poetry. Towards the end of his life, he exercised a monist mindset connecting to spirituality, and practicing several different religions.
A Memorial celebrating Brent’s life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, on Friday, March 14th, 2025, at 2:00 pm. We wish to extend an invitation to any who was a friend to Brent in life so we can best honor his memory.

18 year old Officer Cadet Woods and I were 1st Year roommates at Royal Roads. Brent was always full of energy, enthusiasm and had an astonishing memory. He was admired in the classroom and feared on the wrestling mat. It certainly helped that military structure and discipline suited him. His many years in uniform are a testament to his great sense of duty. Our country and communities are better for his service. Brent has left us too soon, and I offer his family my heartfelt condolences.
