Candy Grace Angela Maybroda (nee Sanders), age 49, passed away Friday February 21, 2025, at the Jubilee Hospital. Born October 25, 1975, in North Vancouver to Glen and Doreen Sanders she was one of four daughters.
At just 22 years old, Candy met her soulmate in Brent which put her life on a trajectory filled with love and creating her own family and life in Sidney, BC. Candy loved being a wife and mother to her beautiful children and had the uncanny ability to make all those around her feel the joy that came from her soul. She loved animals and would pet a crocodile if she thought it was friendly enough. She was the assistant manager at the Great Canadian Dollar Store on Beacon Ave in Sidney, where she created a wonderful community for her colleagues and the people who visited the establishment. She was creative beyond measure and loved celebrating the holidays. You would find her dressed up on Halloween, wearing fun accessories to celebrate Easter and Valentines Day and her Christmas tree was always one of the first up to celebrate the season. Hope and Joshua benefited from their mother’s creative side with Hope often having the best hair on wacky hair day at school.
You could often find Candy walking Beacon Avenue with a Starbucks in hand, saying hello to the locals as she was known and loved by so many in the community. Her warm and welcoming smile, accompanied by her beautiful calm voice, and wonderful giggle, encouraged everyone around her to stop and smile with her.
Candy is survived by her beloved husband, Brent, and two beautiful children Joshua and Hope, as well as her sisters, Adriana, Erika and Mary-Anne and many friends and extended family members. Candy is predeceased by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating via Go Fund Me to support the family in this difficult time.
A Celebration of Candy’s Life, will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

Gillian Faulkner I was shocked to learn of Candy’s passing when I opened the newspaper and saw her obituary. She was the kindest and most thoughtful person I know. I came to know Candy from being a regular patron at the Dollar Store because of her kindness to my dogs. I was often finding an excuse to buy something there, just so my dogs could go in to say Hi and get their treat from her (I wasn’t allowed to walk by, and lord help me if I didn’t!) Even in passing around town we would always greet one another, and when one of my dogs became ill at Christmas, the only place he would want to go for a walk to (on days that he still could) was the Dollar Store to see Candy and get his treat from her. She would always ask about how he was doing and showed genuine care and concern for his well-being, which I will never forget, and when he ultimately passed away, she shared her tears with me, offering extra special attention to our dog that remains. I had been watching for her recently, eager to share the news we are getting a new puppy and would soon have another patron who would be coming in to see her, as I knew she would be just as excited as we are. My heart weighs heavy to learn she is gone, much too soon, and the world has lost an amazing individual whose light and love for animals (and their people) shone like a bright beacon in these darker times. I will greatly miss her beautiful smile and endearing ways and offer my deepest condolences to her family and friends for I know what a great loss they have suffered. May we all continue to carry her kindness out into the world and keep her light shining. Rest in peace, Candy. You will always be remembered with love (and a wagging tail).

Kristen Wesley Ah, my old friend. I’ve known you since we were 11. You always had that energy and spirit people couldn’t help but fall in love with. Though, with time, adult life moved us in separate ways, it was a joy to see you love Brent and raise your babies “across the ocean” on Facebook and our here and there catch-ups over the years.

She was the most amazingly loving, dedicated, involved and caring Wife and Mother. Her friendship came easy. Ruby and I always enjoyed our time spent with her and Hope doing girl stuff; gabbing away and laughing. Her warm and inviting personality will be missed immensely. Please know that you are in our thoughts during this difficult time. Hugs to you all.

Louise and Ian Scott Sending heartfelt condolences to all the family.
Best, Louise and Ian Scott
To all the Maybroda Family,
I remember when I first interviewed Candy for a job at Black Bond Books, in Coquitlam, and how much her enthusiasm shone, and her excitement was contagious. She begged to have a go at the window displays, and boy did she make them incredible. The latest Harry Potter book came out, and when she turned up, all dressed up for the event, she became the children’s favourite to pose with for photos.
She helped me in hard times, when I was by myself, checking in on me. And though she was struggling herself, did her best to find me what she could when I had nothing.
She was a bright light, a kind and good soul. Her love for her family always put a smile in my heart.
The world is a little bit darker now with out her light in it.
I was blessed to have known her.
All my condolences to Brent, Joshua and Hope. Your mother lives on in you.
