Carmen was born in Veracruz, Mexico, the third offspring of fourteen children. She met the love of her life (Donald) in a manner told only in fairytales, two ships passing (literally) on a lake, while he was in Mexico vacationing. She then married him in Mexico City on Sept. 12, 1964. Carmen passed away unexpectedly and suddenly beside her loving husband on February 21, 2011, in Mexico City at the commencement of a family visit. Carmen was predeceased by her parents, Sebastian Salamanca Ortiz, Maria de Jesus Barrientos and three siblings, Dulce Maria, Carlos and Adriana. Carmen and Don established their home in Coquitlam, started their family and then moved to Prince Rupert, Terrace, and finally Victoria where she resided. Carmen leaves her husband, Donald of Victoria; three children, Yvonne Wysocki (Mark Gordon) of Surrey, Albert (Laura Martin del Campo) Rose of Santa Ana, California and Corinna (Shawn) Morrison of Victoria. She leaves eight grandchildren, Arek, Keith, Weslee, Brandon, Ashley, Donald, Josephine and Wyatt. She also leaves a large family of ten brothers and sisters in Mexico. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nephews and nieces in both Mexico and Canada and many friends to mourn for her. Carmen was a loving person to each and every person she met and was extremely devoted to all of her grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She was always there to help if someone was in need of it. She leaves a huge hole in our hearts and will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Mass was held for her in Mexico City on February 22, 2011 and a Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Parish, 4409 Gordon Head Road in Victoria, BC on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 am with reception to follow. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

    Dear family & friends,

    Please accept my sincere condolences.

I did not know Carmen personally, but I do know the hurt & loss that comes from the death of a loved one.

I have found much comfort in the Bible and the hope it holds out of being re-united with our dead loved ones again in the near future.

It has been promised that soon ” a loud voice from the throne will say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Revelation Chap. 21:3-4

My prayer is that you too will find hope and comfort from this wonderful promise from our loving Heavenly Father.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Debbie Turner

    Dear Don,

Please accept my deepest condolence. Though I did not know your wife I do trust in the saying that behind every good man there is a good woman. So I believe she was indeed a great woman. May the comfort of God help you and your family through this difficult time.

We were shocked to read about Carmen’s passing. I will always remember how gracious she was when we first met her after joining Court Services. She was the epitome of a classy lady!!
It was good to hear your grandchildren speak at the service today as Carmen will live forever in your children and grandchildren.
    Remember all the good times
