Charles W McFarlane
May 22, 1916 – August 19, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles McFarlane, beloved brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his sister, Joan Hughes [Bridgewater N. S.]; his daughter, Heather [Norm]; his grandsons, Rob,Dennis [Theresa], Skipper [Lisa] and great-grandchildren, Brinna, Meagan, Sara and Tyler. Charles had lived in Sooke for the past 25 yrs and had many friends who will also miss him. His career began in England where he ran away to sea and spent some time as a merchant seaman. Continuing on in the nautical theme, he served time as a steward with the RCN. After the war, he spent a brief period of time working at the munitions depot at Rocky Point. He finally rounded out his career working as a cook on both the weather ships and the Oceans and Sciences vessels. Charles had many interests but had a great love for music, his garden and cooking. He could often be found baking meat pies and other goodies that he would share with friends. Charles was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was a master mason at the Mt. Shepard Lodge.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at his daughter’s home at 2126 French Rd, Sooke, BC from 2-5 pm.
