November 20, 1915 – May 16, 2011

Charlie passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital, with his daughter by his side. Born into a pioneer Esquimalt family, he resided there his entire life. He loved to fish, as a young boy he would go fishing before going to school. He was able to pursue this interest into his nineties. A skilled craftsman and carpenter by trade, he was a shipwright in the Navy during the war, serving in Courtenay and Bay Bulls, Newfoundland. Following the war he returned to civilian duties at the Naval Dockyard, retiring as Maintenance Supervisor for all Naval facilities, including Royal Roads and Belmont Park. He enjoyed many happy years of retirement, fishing, travelling in his motor home, gardening and pursuing many other hobbies. Predeceased by Mary, his wife of 64 years, he will be sadly missed by son, Barry (Angelle); daughter, Dianne (Laurie); grandsons, Darren (Daphne) and Neil (Heather), and great-grandchildren, Isaac, Phoenix and Anthea. The family would like to express appreciation to the caregivers at VGH Rehab Unit for the kind and compassionate care shown to Dad.

Visitation will be held at McCall Bros. Funeral Home, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Monday, May 23, 2011 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at Hatley Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

I believe Charles Fairall and my mother were 1st cousins. My mother, Morjorie Jean Campbell passed on July 5, 2003 at the age of 97. My grandmother, Mary Fairall Campbell lived to the age of 88. I feel I was very fortunate to have my mother and grandmother live such long healthy lives. I guess Esquimalt agreed with them. My Condolences Lorna May

Charlie ( Dad & Grandpa) will remain in our memories as a good man with a good work ethic and great sense of humour. His garden always looked like a work of art. We are sad that the family will no longer look into his eyes but he will live on forever in your heart and mind. Best wishes from Leah and Ray Bradford.
