February 7, 1949 – October 25, 2009
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Humble on October 25, 2009, after a brief but courageous fight with complications from his battle with diabetes. He leaves his wonderful family to cherish his memory: his wife Shelley, son Craig (Shima), daughter Amber (Clayton), daughter Jade (Athal), brother Robert (Heather), grandchildren Owl, Coyote and Raven, mother-in-law Stephanie, and his wife’s extended family. He was predeceased by his father, Jack Humble (Rosina) (March 2009).
Christopher lived a very full life with a myriad of accomplishments. As a child he had much success with sports, particularly track and field which garnered him honours on a national level. He reached the level of Queen Scout, and was appointed Troop Leader in the 8th Fort Victoria Boy Scouts, which set the ambitious direction his life would take.
After a very successful career in Human Resources, Christopher “retired” with his own consulting business, which has kept him busy for the past 15 years. He served as the Chair of many professional Boards, lending his business expertise to a variety of organizations. A man of seemingly endless ambition and drive, Christopher always kept his eyes open for his next success.
An avid New England Patriots fan, Christopher loved his sports, regardless of competition level. Another pursuit Christopher enjoyed was travel – a cruise with friends, or a solo trek to Tokyo, there was no place he could not conquer. At home, Christopher enjoyed cruising through town with a latte (tall double shot, no foam, non fat, 180 degree) and Coke Zero, while listening to his Sirius Satellite Radio.
Christopher lived for his family and friends, forming close bonds with many people throughout his life. Known equally for his loving nature and distinct sense of humour, Christopher will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Christopher’s life will take place at the family home on Friday, October 30, 2009, at #122 – 75 Songhees Road (located on Paul Kane Road), Victoria, from 4 pm – 8 pm. Memories will be shared from 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm. Out of respect for Christopher’s unique sense of style, all men are asked to wear a Hawaiian/Tommy Bahama style shirt in solidarity for their friend. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation (www.victoriahf.ca).

    Hello, Robert,
Mom sent along Chris’ obituary – what a shock it must be for you to lose both your dad and Chris in the same year…and now to be the sole survivor.
Thinking of you and all the family: may you find comfort and delight in your memories, and blessings to grace the days ahead.

Christopher was a wonderful man who will be missed by all that knew him. He always had a smile and I love listen about his trip to Japan. The world is a little worse off without him in it. My condolences to his family.

  • Dr. C. Grady O'Neill

Shelley, sorry to hear of Chris’ passing. Some patients make the day better, he certainly was a good example of that. Hopefully he was satisfied with my work. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at what must be a very difficult time. Sincerely, Grady.

    Dear Shelley & family:
Taralyn told me of your recent loss of Christopher. I read the obituary and it is beautiful. I remember years ago you and Christopher had us to your home with Taralyn and Ed for appys and a glass of wine. I am so sorry for your loss, I know your pain as I too lost my husband and father of my kids many years ago. Just know that time does heal, but you never forget. You and your children will get through this remembering all the wonderful times spent with Christopher and know that one day you will all be reunited again. May God send his ever-loving light on you and your family through this tough time.
    Sincerely
    Karen Thorstad and family

  • (Padre) Nancy Colton

    Shelley and family,

I was shocked and saddened to read in an email from the Chaplain General’s office Monday that Christopher had passed away.

I didn’t know Christopher well but in the short time I knew him, it was clear he did have a distinct sense of humour, a twinkle in his eye, a great love of life, and the ability to touch people’s hearts and lives. I know he did mine.

Wishing you and all your family peace at this time of sorrow.

    With our deepest sympathy,

    Nancy Colton and Bruce Hamilton
