The family of Christopher McDonald Adams is sad to announce his sudden passing on November 30, 2015 at the age of 60. His death was caused by a rare form of leukemia. Chris, as he was known to all, was born in Montreal. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Robert McDonald Adams, and his mother, Gerda Caroline Adams.

His father was a federal civil servant, so he lived in many places including Brussels, San Francisco and Ottawa. Eventually he settled in Calgary where he attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and received his diploma in petroleum technology. During this time and for many years after, he was the announcer for the SAIT Trojans hockey team. For this effort, he was given the Al Bohonus Recognition Award for his special contribution to college sport in Alberta. After graduation Chris worked for the National Energy Board in Calgary for a number of years, and then about ten years ago, he moved to Victoria as an oil and gas specialist with the BC Ministry of Natural Gas Development and worked with them until his death.

Chris is survived by his sister Laura of Port Angeles, Washington, Aunt Lottie Efird of North Carolina, his Uncle and Aunt Paul and Velma Adams of Alberta and several cousins in British Columbia, Alberta, the East Coast and the United States. He leaves behind a multitude of dear, life-long friends.

The family wishes to thank the medical team at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their incredibly compassionate care. Although it was a shock to lose Chris so quickly their level of attention was outstanding.

A celebration of Chris’ life will be held on Saturday December 5, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at McCall’s Funeral Home, 1400 Vancouver Street, Victoria B.C.  Flowers are gratefully declined. Charitable donations in Chris’ memory may be made to the Leukemia Foundation of Canada.

Christopher touched so many lives with kindness and his presence will never be replaced.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I lost touch with Chris when our relationship ended and I left Calgary back in 1984. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to you Laura and the rest of your family.

We are deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of my cousin Chris. Although miles separated us, we got to know each other as teenagers when Chris and his dad would visit his Aunt Joan and Uncle “Avie”, and even stayed for a time. He was always kind and generous with his time to his younger cousin. Visits to San Francisco were also highlights. Chris was a great tour guide. We are so grateful to have had the chance to attend the Adams reunion this past summer. Who knew at that time, that time was so short. He was a gentle man, and wonderful brother. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. Laura, our thoughts are with you.

My Prayers and thoughts are with you Laura, and your family in this very sad time.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Chris’ passing through the obituaries section of the Calgary Herald. My sincere condolences to the family.

I was a colleague of Chris when we both worked at Westcoast Energy in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Subsequently I’ve had the pleasure of seeing and catching up with Chris over a number of years at the BC Unconventional Gas Forum/Conference in Victoria. Chris was a true gentleman, always very helpful in dispensing advice/assistance and very dedicated to his role in the BC Ministry of Natural Gas Development. He will be truly missed by many that he came into contact with in the energy industry.

  • Alf Hartling

My sincere condolences to Chris’s family. I worked with Chris at the BC Ministry, and travelled with him representing our employer to numerous conferences. He was very considerate, good natured and a joy to call my friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family. I was shocked and sad when I learned of Chris’s passing. I have known Chris for several years and worked with him while he was in Calgary at one time. We kept in touch over the years and I considered him a good friend. When he moved to Victoria and visited Calgary for conferences, we would get together for dinner and visits when time permitted.

He will be dearly missed and was such a special person. My prayers and thoughts are with you Laura, as Chris spoke of you often during our visits. May he rest in peace.

I worked with Chris, as a minor official for the SAIT Trojan’s hockey games from 1999-2005. Chris was a pleasure to work with. Although we both moved on from the arena and lost touch over the last number of years, I always considered him a good friend. My sincere condolences.

Our cousin Chris was such a kind and gentle man, and I will be forever grateful that he brought our family to his hometown of Victoria last Summer for a Cousin’s Reunion that he organized with great care. He was so thoughtful about every aspect of the weekend, and I will always cherish that time with him and all of the Adams cousins….it was our first Reunion and I hope in his name that we will all remain close in his honor, despite the miles that separate us. May he rest in peace and watch closely over his dear sister Laura.
