It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Smith on Monday, November 14, 2011, at the age of 76 years. Dave was predeceased by his son Brian. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife Karen Gelowitz, daughters Jennifer Gelowitz and Stephanie Smith, sons Garry (Colleen) Smith and Doug Smith. Also left to mourn are twin sisters Dianne (Kent) Taylor and Daphne (Tino) Ethans, grandson Robert and granddaughter Breanne, and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was born November 3rd, 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and later moved to Edmonton, and then Regina. In 2003 he moved to Victoria to retire.

Dave worked as an architect for most of his life, and in his spare time enjoyed sailing and golfing. He had a great love for life and lived it to its fullest, including being an enthusiastic fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Vancouver Canucks.

A family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.     It was with great sadness that I read of Dave’s passing. While we have had limited contact over recent years,I will always have fond memories of my dear friend of more than 50 years. May you be consoled somewhat by the knowledge that Dave had a successful career and was admired and loved by many friends. Sincerely, Jack.
