David Hugh Ridout was born on March 31, 1937 in Victoria, BC, to Cecil and Rita Ridout.
He grew up, was educated and married in Victoria. He held various short- term jobs before becoming a deckhand on Island Tug/Seaspan. An injury shifted him into the galley as a cook before his early retirement.
David’s life then took him many places on Vancouver Island, including a notable stay in Duncan with his second wife, but he spent his final years in Victoria. He passed away at Beacon Hill Villa on June 27, 2025.
David was predeceased by his parents and brother Mike (Marilyn). He is survived by his son Jud and granddaughter Kori, along with his brothers Lorne (Bev), Paul (Sherry) & many nieces and nephews. We’re grateful to his friends Jack McMillan, Art Joyce and Brian Christie, along with his long- term support network, especially Aly and Lorern Stubbs, and the staff at Beacon Hill Villa for their compassionate care. He will be missed.
