May 21, 1975 – June 5, 2024

David Keith Brumby passed away peacefully at age 49 from complications of pneumonia during a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer on June 5, 2024 in Victoria, BC surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 21, 1975 in Victoria.

David is survived by his wife, Larissa; Mother, Terry; Father, Robert; Brother, Jacob (Kelsey); Nieces, Bailey and Cassidy (Max). He will be deeply missed by all his extended family and many close friends.

David married the love of his life, Larissa, on May 7, 2023 in Victoria. They loved spending time together cooking, drinking good wine, travelling, and boating. As a couple, they enjoyed being social and had many memorable adventures and occasions spent with family and friends.

David was a professional goalie in the East Coast, American, and International Hockey Leagues between 1996 and 2005. Major career highlights include being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1993, signed by the Minnesota Wild, and winning the Calder Cup in Providence, RI. David spent some years in commercial real estate before eventually moving on to his real passion – the stock market. He loved managing investment portfolios for clients and talking stocks with colleagues.

David was an avid golfer and member at The Victoria Golf Club. He was happiest while on the ocean, and started fishing with his family at a young age.

A Celebration of David’s life will be held at The Victoria Golf Club, 1110 Beach Drive, Victoria, on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 3:00pm.

  1. I’m so sorry to lose my friend of over 35 years. I met you through Simon Meir, and we shared many good memories during childhood. Transition to when we both started our careers, me as a realtor and you as a broker. You helped me and Strasser buy our first building and we did several deals together. We had a great friendship and I will value that and remember you forever, my friend. I’m so sad to read this and hear this news. Rest in peace, my friend. Your memory will never fade for me.

  2. I have very fond memories looking up to Dave as a young goalie myself. Sending strength from the Central Coast, we will release a big fish in your name this season Dave.

  5. To the Brumby Family,
Sincere and heartfelt condolences – such very sad news. Wonderful memories of David at Glenlyon, especially what seems like every day, turning up with goalie equipment for use at recess or in the gym with floor hockey! Wasn’t he so lucky to have followed his dream with such success?
