May 19, 1950 – July 31, 2026

David Lawrence North (Dave) passed away on July 31, 2026, in Victoria, British Columbia, at the age of 76, following multiple health challenges, most recently pancreatic cancer.

Born on May 19, 1950, in Victoria, British Columbia, Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his love of his wife and family, his caring, humble nature, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.

Dave was predeceased by his mother, Frances North, and his father, Lawrence North.

He is survived by his dear wife, Raynette North; his daughters, Laura Knapp (Peter) and Sarah Schindel (Kevin); his cherished grandchildren, Oliver, Kyle, Russell, Eric, and Kate; and his sister, Carolyn Hodson (Rick). Dave took immense pride in his family and especially treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, who brought him tremendous joy.

Dave held Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from UBC and had a successful career as a leader and quiet mentor in the energy sector that took his family from coast to coast.

Dave had many passions. Most notably he had a love of sailing that began in his early teens. He was fortunate enough to live by the ocean and share many wonderful adventures on his own boat with his family and friends. He also enjoyed working in his workshop and on his garden railway alongside Raynette while she gardened. He always enjoyed a good joke with his infectious laugh.

He and his family are extremely grateful for the care he received at the Royal Jubilee Hospital Palliative Care Unit, as well as the many healthcare professionals who made such a difference in his life over the decades.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation of Canada, or Diabetes Canada.

  1. I am so deeply sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I have many wonderful memories of working with Dave during our Sable years. He was truly one of a kind—a genuine gentleman with a kind heart who cared deeply about the people around him.

Dave had a way of making people feel respected, appreciated, and part of something bigger. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know him and to have shared those years with him. He left a lasting impression on me and on so many others whose lives he touched.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Raynette and the entire North family. I hope you find comfort in the many wonderful memories you shared with Dave and in knowing just how much he meant to so many people. He will be greatly missed and always fondly remembered.

  2. So saddened to hear of the passing of such a wonderful man. We are so fortunate to have met, worked with and enjoyed making so many memories while together in Nova Scotia for the Sable Offshore Energy Project. Dave’s Leadership is well embedded in this projects success and his time in Canada’s Energy Sector. To Raynette and family, sending our love and condolences your way. Cherish the many fond memories as you pass through this difficult time. He will be missed. Rest in Peace my friend❤️

  3. Raynette, over the past several years we so enjoyed getting to know you and Dave on the SNSYC Sunday walks. We are saddened to hear of his passing. We’re thinking of you and your family and are sorry for your loss.

  4. David, Raynette, Laura & Sarah were our big support network when we arrived in Newfoundland from Norway. We have continued our friendship ever since and we meet when we can. Most recently in Victoria. We had great times laughing about life and happenings. David was a true gentleman and friend and sent support when I was bereaved. The most stoic of characters he never complained even though life sent him so many curve balls. He is at rest and can be at peace now.
