Like Chris and Gerry before me, I am very sorry for your loss. Dave was a character and he will be missed. He might have been on his best behaviour in meetings with me at the Ministry however his smile and quiet comments always made an impression. He had a smile the last time I saw him (at Alan Osborne’s retirement) and that is how I will remember him… Best wishes. Cathy

Dear Phyllis: I am so sorry for your loss. Like Chris, I have so many stories to tell about Dave that it would fill pages. There was never a dull moment with Dave around. He was like a big brother to Chris and I when we started with the Islands Trust, always prepared to provide perspective and provide sage advice in trying times. Like brothers,we played a lot of practical jokes on each other. Dave was the master and even when the joke was on Chris or I, we had to marvel at the sheer brilliance of it. I also recall our trip on the Teslin and Yukon Rivers and Dave’s nightly and heartfelt recitation of Robert Service poems around the camp fire. Dave was a prince. I will never forget his incredible sense of humour, his sheepish smile, his wisdom and the way he cared for others. He was the kind of friend everyone wants. We were lucky to have him as our friend. I will never forget him. God bless you Phyllis.

Dave, I will miss our many great adventures and the challenge of overcoming the looming calamity that unexpectedly, yet predictably, threatened most of them. I promise never to stop for a dime on the road when riding my bike, never to venture onto the Yukon River again with a faulty motor, to not use gasoline to start a cooking fire, to not catch pneumonia on a fishing trip, to measure twice and cut once, to seize opportunity for practical jokes and to never let Phyllis play with matches in the park, again.

Every one who knew Dave has lost a great friend. His wonderful sense of humour will never be forgotten. I’m reminded of it every time I look at the fishing rod he made me – out of a 3 iron.
