April 6, 1941 – May 11, 2013

David (Wick) Wilson, 72, died suddenly in Vienna, on Saturday, while on a river cruise with his wife Brenda. Married for 30 years, she once asked God to send her someone interesting to marry: “And boy did God overachieve. Wick’s glass wasn’t half full, it was overflowing.”

Wick, a fourth generation Victorian and son of former mayor Dick Wilson, attended Glenlyon and Shawnigan Lake schools, studied in Neuchatel, Western University and at Victoria College before taking a law degree at UBC. David was known for his remarkable exploits in the courtroom and terrifying cross-examinations. He was passionate about justice, family and friends. He loved athletics and he participated in all activities with tremendous enthusiasm. A founding partner of Wilson Marshall Law Corp., he practiced law until his death. Never dull, he lived life large and wore Bermuda shorts all year sometimes with black tie and knee socks.

“He taught us to work hard, follow through and always strive for excellence,” said son Mike.

Among many causes, Wick was former president of the Union Club and served on Saanich Police Board, St. Georges Housing Society and most recently as a director on the Broadmead Care board.

Wick is survived by his wife Brenda, Mike (Angie) and Katherine, grandsons Hunter, Brody, Griffin, sister Penny (Peter), and niece Sarah (Matt).

A service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 2 p.m. Tuesday May 21, with a reception at the Union Club. Special thanks to Cannon Penelope Black, Rector of Holy Trinity, and three couples who materialized on the cruise and hovered like angels over Brenda.

Flowers gratefully declined, but friends may donate to B.C. branch of Canadian Diabetes Association.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this time.
Brenda, I remember with appreciation your support of Joel when you taught him. Pen, I hope we shall find time for a beach walk before I leave Vancouver. Wick was a fine man.
    love, Hilary
