Delbert (Del) passed away in the loving arms of his wife Evelyn at Victoria’s Royal Jubilee Hospital on December 21, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with kidney failure.

Del was born in Unity SK in 1939 and moved with his family to Calgary AB at the age of three years.

He joined the Navy in 1958 and did his training at Cornwallis before transferring to Victoria BC.  In 1961, shortly after he and Lyn were married, Del was sent to Portsmouth England for submarine training.  That was one of the best times of our lives.

Del left the service in 1966 and pursued a career in construction.

Del was predeceased by his father Paul Volk and mother Mary Anne Volk. He is survived by his wife Lyn; son Michael Volk of Victoria BC and daughter Karen Volk of Calgary AB; grandson Tyler Neil Volk; brother Anthony (Marie) Volk of Kelowna BC & sisters Phyllis (Gerald) Bishoff of Lethbridge AB, Violet Underwood of Sacramento CA and Darlene (Bill) Ramunus of Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life to honour Del, will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 2:00pm with interment to follow at the Royal Oak Burial Park next door. Friends are then invited to return to the Sequoia Centre for a reception.

I had the pleasure of meeting Del and Lyn decades ago when I was first starting my career in mens apparel.
Del had great taste and a passion for all things beautiful in fine clothing. He always had this infectious smile
and quick wit about him that I will always remember. My sincere condolences to all the family.

  • Michael Volk

I was always proud to be called your son and was often reminded of how loved you were by others I’d bump into over the years. Everyone had the utmost respect for you and a common theme was how you carried your self with such class.

My wish is to make you proud by living to your standard. I miss you every day & will love you forever.

A true gentleman, with a big heart and a twinkle in his eye and a helping hand for all. We have been lucky to know Del for over 50 years, to work and travel and laugh with him and Lynn over all that time. His presence will be sorely missed, his smile unforgettable and we send our deepest sympathy and prayers to Lynn, Michael and Karen. May you Rest In Peace…. We cherish many, many wonderful memories of our years with you and we will always remember you with love and gratitude for your presence in our lives.

I have fond memories working with Del in Victoria and particularly during our Seattle development days…Del was full of laughter, a good attitude and ran his many construction undertakings throughout Victoria with high regard. Fondest condolences to Lyn, Mike and Karen….

I was saddened to learn of Del’s passing and offer my condolences to those he left behind. When I think of Del I see that big smile but his good nature went well beyond his outward appearance. He was a genuine good guy. We did not see each other often but every time we did we both left with a good feeling. I’ll miss those encounters but remember them with fondness. Rest In peace my friend. You deserve nothing less.

Del and my husband enjoyed a very long friendship
They met well serving on the HMCS New Waterford (1958)
Brian introduced Del to Lyn and our friendship remained over the years
Del left the navy and through hard work became a very successful business man who gave back to the community
Many places in Victoria display how gifted Del was with woodwork
He was fully supported by Lyn as they went through many years together
    Del leaves many fond memories
