Denis Craig Allen’s journey through life came to a premature end on Monday, May 16, five short months after the passing of his father, Don.
Denis leaves many to grieve his passing, including his loving wife, Tracy Dee Henderson, his mother Grace Allen of Carman, Manitoba, his brothers, Rick, Don (Karen) from Saskatchewan and his sisters Kathy Nicholson (Ian) and Tracy Rose (Ron) from Manitoba along with many nieces and nephews and many friends and co-workers.
Denis loved gardening and fishing and had definite skill at both. He also loved hockey and would have had you believe he had skills in that arena as well, even playing in the early years with Eddie Belfour, who became one of the preeminent NHL goaltenders of the seventies and eighties, only because he had Denis in front of him. Whatever the truth, the reality was that Denis loved his Vancouver Canucks. He loved his pets, working on home and garden renovations with Tracy and get togethers with family and friends. Denis loved his new little house and took so much pride in it. Denis was a big man, but his heart was bigger; he wasn’t afraid to show he cared or to be the first to comfort someone else. He also had a great sense of humor often at his own expense. We will all remember his guffaw of a laugh followed shortly by a barb meant only in good humor.
Denis tried his hand at a number of careers until owning his own Roof Maintenance business in Victoria. But his focus was always in making sure he could provide for his family so they could enjoy all of the things the world had to offer. His main interests were outdoors. Many will remember him standing on a rock or sitting in a boat with a fishing rod in his hand, a smirk on his face from the sheer joy of being there. It only took a 20-year quest to find good meat in Victoria, as the staff at Glenwood Meats will confirm. His newest passion was participating in Texas Hold-Em tournaments with Tracy, friends and family.
Denis’ life took many turns, starting in small town Manitoba, then on to Winnipeg, Vancouver and ultimately to the Victoria area. Several years ago Denis’ life changed again when he met Tracy. These past years with her were some of the happiest of their lives and we know he would have wished for many, many more. He certainly planned for them but that was not to be, and now we are left to celebrate his memory and grieve our loss.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the BC Epilepsy Society.
A celebration of Denis’ life will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 1 p.m. at MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets. Condolences may be offered at www.mccallbros.com.

With every tear I cry,
I lose a piece of you.
With every breath I try,
But I can’t forget you.
With every heartbeat I lie,
Knowing I will always miss you.

Denis was a great friend growing up in Manitoba. His humor and compassion are the two traits that will stand out in my memories of the big guy.
Over the past few years I was hoping for a chance to see him and Tracy again after all these years.
I saw a great contentment in Minnow upon meeting his wife and I’m sure that the last twenty years in B.C. were very cherished times. My condolences to Tracy, Mrs. Allen and the complete Allen family. My thoughts are with you all.
I’ll miss you buddy! God Bless.

As a Strata Property manager one comes into contact with a number of vendors. Some are a liability to me as a manager Some like Denis are an asset. Because he cared about the job he did. I always received positive feedback about Hays Roofing and if I didnt I knew it was from an invalid source. Denis was truly an honest and caring person. I will miss him
