December 30, 1922 – December 31, 2012
Our loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother (Nana) passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C. just after reaching her 90th birthday. Denise was born in London, England and came to Canada in 1946 as a war bride of John Edwin (Ted) McCannel where they lived happily together for 66 years. Denise adjusted to the Canadian climate in Saskatoon, Ottawa and Winnipeg, finally finding her own little England in Victoria in 1985. In addition to Ted, Denise is survived by her son, John, his wife Mary (Chiappetta) and their children, Devan and Mia. She was predeceased by her son, Allan; and her sister, Daphne and brother, Bernard who remained in England with their families. A great joy for Denise over the years were her regular trips “home” to England to visit with family and friends. Denise was famous for her photo albums and was widely known and appreciated as the family archivist. Her passions included the arts and culture, nature, gardening, the well being of animals and her many volunteer activities were focussed on these over the years. Denise was a member and executive officer of the Wednesday Morning Musicale in Winnipeg and served as Coordinator of the Food Services Committee at the Oak Bay United Church in Victoria. Denise bravely endured heart problems for many years, having her first attack at age 58. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Victoria SPCA or a charity of choice.

I’ll stay there forever.”

Dear Mr. McCannell and Family,
I was a receptionist at Dr Emerson’s dental office and had the pleasure of knowing you and Mrs McCannell (Denise) for many years. I absolutely loved Denise! We shared stories of each other families and she always spoke of her Grandchildren with such joy and love.
I’m so sorry to hear of her passing and send my condolences to you and your family.
Take good care.
Lisa Murphy.
