We lost a lovely, gracious lady on Friday, September 20, 2013 after a month of rapid decline. Our dear Aunt June was 95 years old (born June 19, 1918). A private, dignified and classy lady, June was also extremely generous, donating frequently to many charities. June was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Lovitt in 1982; her second husband, Norman Beattie in 2001; her sisters, Theo Milne (2005), Marjorie Reynolds (2006) and her brother, Alex Jardine (2008).

June joined the Uplands Golf Course in 1954 where she became the first lady’s captain in 1968. Playing golf and bridge with her dear friends, Marj, Betty, Dorothy, Ina, Joan and others was her greatest joy. When driving June through Oak Bay, she took great pride in pointing out houses and apartments she had designed and built with Gordon. June also enjoyed travelling to many different countries with Norman and later cruising with her sister, Ruth White. In recent years, June developed a special loving relationship with her niece, Suzie Polinsky; her grand-niece, Jessica Smith and their families with whom she enjoyed many fun-filled lunches and dinners. June had a great sense of humour and was always positive, happy and grateful to be part of our families. We loved her very much and will miss her dearly.

She leaves behind sisters, Ruth White (Tofino) and Deidre Mills (Calgary), along with 16 nieces, nephews and their families.

Special thanks to Serenity Home Care and especially, Colleen and all the wonderful ladies that came to help June stay in her home until the end as was her wish. Their compassion and dedication to her was exemplary and she enjoyed them all.

“Thanks for the memories June, for being part of our lives, for bringing us such love and fun, we are all the better for having known you.”

In June’s memory, she would love it if you…played a round of golf, duplicate Bridge, fed the ducks at Beacon Hill Park, marvelled at the view along Dallas Road, bought yourself some flowers, had a fun lunch with friends, passed on a good deed, donated to your favourite charity. Thank you from Suzie, Jessica and all of the family.

A Celebration of Life for June will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in McCall’s Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver Streets.
