As we mark the year anniversary of her passing, it is with great sadness that we announce that Donna Lea Signori passed away on December 13th, 2023. She is forever loved and always missed by twin sister Dolores, life partner John, stepdaughter Kiiri (Liova, Sofie, Mikko) and close friend Bonnie, among others.

Donna was very dear to those who knew her. Never one to draw attention to her own acts or accomplishments, Donna was extremely kind and generous (both to those she knew personally and through volunteer work), highly educated, and professionally successful (serving as Head of Collections at UVic’s McPherson Library for 25 years). She was a good Italian at heart (always with tomatoes ripening to perfection on the kitchen counter), and the cooking that we enjoyed with her over so many years together is greatly missed – her wonderful pasta sauce, delicious stracci, and sublime osso bucco, among other delights. With a great love of fine music and art, Donna enjoyed simple elegance. Her quiet classiness was paired with a wry and often surprising sense of humour, delivered with a candour and directness that will always bring a smile to our faces to recall.

We love you Donna, and miss you so very much.

Our thanks to the renal unit and the 5th floor nursing staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their compassionate care. Donations can be made to the renal unit in Donna’s memory.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I’m very sorry to hear of Donna‘s passing. We lost track of Donna and her sister Dolores after leaving the basement suite in their home just outside the UBC gates after our first years at UBC. My friend and roommate, Barry Price and I had become good friends with both girls, and I had no idea that Donna ended up working at U Vic so many years later. Had I known,I would’ve tried to get in touch with her at some time, because I’ve also lived on the island for a very long time now. My sincere condolences to Dolores, and the family. Barry and I often reminisced with fondness of our time in the Signori house and both girls “upstairs”.

I’m very sorry to hear of Donna’s passing. My friend Dietrich and I were roomers in the Signori basement in 1962 and Donna and Dolores and their parents were very kind to us. Many fond memories
