It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that we share the passing of our beloved Doris Pauline Blood, who left us peacefully at the age of 100 on December 2, 2024. Born in Tyner, Saskatchewan, on December 27, 1923, Doris lived a life full of adventure, determination, and a deep love for her family and community.
Growing up on the farm, Doris was the ultimate tomboy so much so that she was affectionately known to her dad, Mint, as ‘guy’. She was always outside, learning the ins and outs of farm life. Farming was in her blood, and no matter where life took her, she never lost her connection to the land, especially with her future life with her beloved Glen.
She was the first in her family to graduate high school, a proud moment that marked the beginning of her success. After high school, Doris worked as a bank teller in Lacadena, and she was always known for her sharp mind, strong work ethic, and no-nonsense attitude.
Doris and Glen’s love story began when they met at a dance in Tyner, Saskatchewan at just 13. Six years later, at 19, Doris married the love of her life, and they shared 65 wonderful years together. They were considered home to many and those who visited were welcomed with a pot of coffee and engaging conversation.
Doris was passionate about politics and staying informed. She loved discussing the big issues, always offering her well-thought-out opinions and caring deeply about the future of her community. Whether it was a local election or a national debate, she was always up-to-date and ready to share her thoughts.
One of Doris’s biggest passions was genealogy. She loved tracing her family’s roots and piecing together the stories of her ancestors. Many family members will fondly remember her sharing these stories, proudly passing down the rich history of their family for generations to come.
Above all, Doris was known for her wisdom and a generous spirit that touched everyone she met. She had a heart as big as the prairies she loved, and she leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and an appreciation for the little things in life.
She is survived by her 3 children, Guy (Joan) Blood, Lenna Undershute, and Danna Rankin and sister-in-law Janice nee Blood (Frank) Gardener. She was predeceased by Glen Blood and her son Kevin (Pearl) Blood. Lovingly remembered by 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to https://www.redcross.ca/ways-to-donate/other-ways-to-donate.
Memorial & Celebration of Life announcement to come in early 2025, likely to take place in June 2025.
We will miss her dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on in the stories, lessons, and love she gave to all of us.
Rest in peace, Doris. You were truly one of a kind.

Cheryl Mullock My deepest condolences to Doris’ family. Who knew that my call to come to the Blood’s home to help make some house updates would have ever ended the way they did that fateful evening? But it brought Doris and I close on a night when she needed someone by her side! And I was pleased to be that chosen person to assist Doris the night her precious Glen left his earthly body, to be with the Lord. How steady and strong she was in her new found circumstances. She taught me so much that night that has served me well right through to today. May the Lord Bless you and keep you, dear friend. And may He make His face to shine brightly upon your family as they too look to you, even still for their strength and courage, in these hours , days, weeks and months to come. Cheryl Mullock

Keith Cathers Glen and Doris treated Sharon and I like extended family members. When we went back to Eston every couple of weeks to visit Sharon’s mother in the lodge, Glen would walk across the the street when he saw our car. We got invited for dinner or supper and always had a good visit with them. I visited Doris in her lodge when in Victoria, she was always so friendly to me. Doris will be missed by her family but also the many people she knew in her lifetime.
My sincere condolences to Guy, Danna Lenna and their children.
