Mom left us, in her ninetieth year, on Friday, December 11, 2009 after a brief illness. Doris and her identical twin, Alice, were born on a farm near Lashburn, SK on October 10, 1920 to Ernest and Beatrice Wren. Doris was a devoted wife to Neil, her husband of 65 years; dedicated mother to David (Joan Backus), Donna Field (Rick Gonder), Alan and Glen and beloved Nana to Alison Field and Stephanie Field, all of Victoria. She freely shared her love as well with numerous extended family and friends and will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Our sincere thanks to Dr. James Houston and the wonderful staff of Victoria Hospice.
“..and now, the only thing left is love”
A Memorial Service will be held in First Metropolitan United Church, 932 Balmoral Road at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 18, 2009. Reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Victoria Hospice, 1510 Fort Street, Victoria, BC V8S 5J2.

Travers CUSTANCE To David,
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. I am especially sorry that I was not in the picture to help you and your family in the final days, as you were in the loss of my parents. Your massive help and expertise was a big contributer to the successful conclusion of the disposition and sale of their assets and our inheritance. For which I thank you very much.

I have fond memories of coming to your family home in days gone by.
I remember too, how much Stephanie and Allison spoke of their Grandmother during their school days. Please pass my condolences to your Dad, Donna, the girls, and your brothers. Take care and my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. With sincere sympathy and care, Bev Edwards

Gail & Monte Thompson Neil – I was so saddened to hear that Doris has left us. I have fond memories of visiting you both after your retirement. It was Christmas time and Doris was pulling freshly baked shortbread cookies from the oven. They were the best – I think I ate about a dozen and went home with some too.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all the family,
Gail & Monte Thompson“One star in the night sky – shining for the one who will always be in your heart”

Barb and Peter Klinke Dave our thoughts are with you, Joan, and your family today. We didn’t know your mother, Doris, but she was obviously a very wonderful and loving mother, wife, and friend to so many people. It is very tough to lose one’s mother all the while feeling the mixed emotions of both sadness and relief – that her suffering was not prolonged. We hope you will find solace in remembering the good times you shared with her.
Our deepest sympathy,
Barb & Peter
