June 7, 1924 – August 17, 2012

Loving, caring, always lively, with a smile on her face and a kind word, – – – that was our mother, Dorothy Sing. Mom passed away peacefully early Friday morning, August 17th at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 88. She is predeceased by her husband and our father, George and her siblings, Ellen, Jean, Alex, Henry, Victor, Wilfred and Vivian. Her (5) children: Ed (Hilary), Deborah (Kevin), Ron (Natalie), Bernice (Stewart) and Gordon will remember her wisdom, humour and love. She will be greatly missed by her (12) grandchildren: Brandon, Nadia, Tyson, Olivia, Hilary, Nathan, Rachel, Elizabeth, Michelle, Daniel, Anna and Nickolas. She is survived by her siblings: Sharon, Elkus, Annabelle, Kennedy, Salina and Janine.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Mom survived the war in China to be reunited with her family in Vancouver. In 1953, she married her husband, George and moved to Victoria where she raised her family. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage until George passed away in 1997. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked at numerous businesses, participated in the Tam Gong Chinese Temple (Yen Wo Society) and several Chinese Benevolent Associations in the community. Mom took many classes and was always willing to learn something new. She enjoyed making new friends, sharing time with her children and grandchildren and many activities such as exercise classes, lawn bowling, bingo and shopping. Dorothy will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother grandmother and friend.

Friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at McCall’s Funeral Home, 1400 Vancouver Street, Victoria, B.C. V8V 3W3. A private service will be held for the immediate family. A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will follow — date to be announced. Our thanks to the doctors, nurses and the medical staff at Victoria General Hospital for their care of Mom. Condolences to the family may be offered  below.
