September 6, 1917 – July 9, 2012

Mum passed away peacefully on July 9, 2012, after a brief illness. May was born and raised in Victoria, and worked at New Method Laundry in the 1930’s and 40’s. She spent many years in the

hospitality industry as a waitress at the old Crystal Gardens, Holyrood House and Goldstream Catering, retiring in her late 70’s. Mum was predeceased in 1994 by her husband of 43 years, Cy and by her sister Fanny in 1984.

Mum is survived by her loving family, son Glen, daughter-in-law Marlene; she was an amazing Grandma to Greg (fiancée Katie), Brent and Christina. Remembered also by nephew Brian (Jean) Johnson and family.

Mum was a very independent, active woman. Her passions included bowling (May and Cy were fondly known as “Mr. and Mrs. 5 Pin” in the bowling community), cards and bingo at the local legions and recreation centres, and cheering on her grandchildren at their many sports and activities. She spent many hours challenging Glen in crib games. Mum always made time for family and friends, and held a special place in her heart for Bandit, the family dog she adored. Mum was loved and she will be missed by all who knew her, but never forgotten. In her words “she lived a good life, no regrets”.

Many thanks to the nurses and staff at RJH for their kindness and compassion, and to Dr. James Stockdill for his excellent care of “Tiger” as he liked to call her.

No service by request. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, July 15, 2012, from 1-4pm, at Glen and Marlene’ s home (4l88 Keewatin Pl.) In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Guide Dog Services, the SPCA or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered below.
