Dorothy passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on March 27, 2018 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dorothy was born on December 27, 1939 and grew up on the family farm in Aldergrove, BC. She graduated from Langley Junior-Senior High School in 1957.
Dorothy worked for the public service for over 25 years, first as a court reporter for the Department of Immigration and then as a stenographer with the RCMP. She married Klaus Schroeder in 1980 in Victoria.
Upon retirement, Dorothy spent many years travelling the world with Klaus before his death in 2009. Dorothy’s bubbly sense of humour and outgoing nature kept her in many social groups: the weight training ladies, the Cordova Bay hikers, the book club, and volunteering with the Victoria Symphony.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Joan and brothers David (Kathy), Herb (Evelyn) and Ken (Sharron) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Klaus, sister Kathy and brother Bill.

Pat Gerrard Dorothy was a really dear friend. I first met her and Klaus when I joined a class at the gym that they were part of. Such a lovely couple. Dorothy was smart, so full of life and had a great sense of humour. These last few years were very hard for her and yet she was still able to retain her quick wit and brave optimism. Linda Dixon I am so sorry to hear of Dorothy’s passing. We lived next door to each other on Dalhousie St. There were many a dinner and card night between us. It hit Dorothy very hard when Klaus passed away, but she eventually came out of her sorrow and got more involved with her hobbies and groups. Dorothy had a lot of health issues in the last few years, and I am sorry to say so did I. Our times of meeting dwindled and was done either on the computer or phone. It was great being her and Klaus’ neighbours.

When we returned to Victoria this month we were saddened and shocked to learn of Dorothy’s passing.
As long time residents of Seascape, we knew both Dorothy and Claus these past 18 years. We witnessed her ‘bubbly’ sense of humour on many occasions and will always remember her with fondness.
