Dorothy passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on March 27, 2018 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dorothy was born on December 27, 1939 and grew up on the family farm in Aldergrove, BC. She graduated from Langley Junior-Senior High School in 1957.
Dorothy worked for the public service for over 25 years, first as a court reporter for the Department of Immigration and then as a stenographer with the RCMP. She married Klaus Schroeder in 1980 in Victoria.
Upon retirement, Dorothy spent many years travelling the world with Klaus before his death in 2009. Dorothy’s bubbly sense of humour and outgoing nature kept her in many social groups: the weight training ladies, the Cordova Bay hikers, the book club, and volunteering with the Victoria Symphony.
“She will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends”
Dorothy is survived by her sister Joan and brothers David (Kathy), Herb (Evelyn) and Ken (Sharron) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Klaus, sister Kathy and brother Bill.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Victoria Hospice.
A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will occur at a later date.

Dorothy was a great lady with a sense of humor and well liked by all who knew her
My condolences to Dorothy’s family. Dorothy was such an authentic person, so full of life, a witched sense of humour balanced with a kind and loving spirit. She will be missed.

To Dorothy’s family: I am so deeply saddened to read about Dorothy’s passing. I had missed her at the Victoria Symphony and always thought about her as she was such a gracious lady to be with. I shall remember you forever Dorothy.
Dorothy was a really dear friend. I first met her and Klaus when I joined a class at the gym that they were part of. Such a lovely couple. Dorothy was smart, so full of life and had a great sense of humour. These last few years were very hard for her and yet she was still able to retain her quick wit and brave optimism. We are all going to miss her so much.
She was a very dear friend and will be very missed. She was very brave and never lost her sense of humour. RIP my friend!
I am so sorry to hear of Dorothy’s passing. We lived next door to each other on Dalhousie St. There were many a dinner and card night between us. It hit Dorothy very hard when Klaus passed away, but she eventually came out of her sorrow and got more involved with her hobbies and groups. Dorothy had a lot of health issues in the last few years, and I am sorry to say so did I. Our times of meeting dwindled and was done either on the computer or phone. It was great being her and Klaus’ neighbours.
Dorothy was such a vibrant part of our gym “family”. I loved her enthusiasm, sense of humor and keen interest in the world around her. She will be sorely missed.
So sad to hear of Dorothy’s passing. I have such fond memories of her and we shared so many laughs at work. She had a great sense of humour. She will be missed.
Anne and I are sorry to hear of the loss of a dear fried and classmate
May Dorothy Rest In Peace
Our condolences to her family
So sad, Shirley Schroeder and I send our sincere condolences. We were good friends in high school. Would love to attend the service but health issues and distance preclude that possibility.
We pray for your comfort and peace.
