Dougald was born on October 29th, 1936 in Inverness, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. He passed away peacefully at home on November 19th, 2023.

When Dougald was 8 years old, his mom passed away. During this time, he became very close to his father spending most evenings listening to hockey games and The Lone Ranger on the radio. Dougald played a lot of sports in his younger days. He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and hockey on the outdoor rink. He truly enjoyed watching all sports especially his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Right out of High School Dougald taught school briefly but didn’t like being back in the classroom. It was a one room school and 99% of the students were his relatives. They sure gave him a rough time. He later moved on to Ontario, Northern BC and finally to Vancouver Island. 1977 was a big year for Dougald, he bought a commercial fishing boat, met Sharon and married her all within 8 months. They went on to have two daughters, Robin and Lisa and three grandchildren, Kaelyn, Nathan and Greyson.

Dougald was an honorable, gentle and hard working man. He was an excellent listener and extremely patient. Dougald was devoted to his wife, daughters and grandchildren. For his entire 87 years he always appreciated what he had.

Captain, Dad, Papa, may you always have fair winds and calm seas. Your voyage may have ended but your love and memories will continue to guide us.

The Funeral Service will be held at St. Joseph’s The Worker Parish, 785 Burnside Road West, Victoria, BC, on Thursday, November 23rd, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
