June 18, 1923 – October 26, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, Douglas MacArthur on October 26, 2014 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. He was born on June 18, 1923 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Predeceased by his wife Diana MacArthur (nee Davis) in 2002, Douglas is survived by his daughters, Lesley and Melissa MacArthur.

Douglas MacArthur worked as a surveyor and city planner which allowed him to pursue his enjoyment of the BC forest, intellectual ideas and aesthetics. He will be remembered for his thoughtful gentleness to everyone around him.

Flowers are gratefully declined. A private cremation has taken place and, by request, no service will be held.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Dear Lesley and Melissa: We’re sorry to read about the loss of your dad. My husband and I both had the opportunity to get to know your dad. He was my husband’s first patient when he graduated naturopathic medical school. In transferred into my care many years later. I loved your dad’s stories and insights. He so missed your mom and thought the world of the two of you and his grandchild. He will be missed.

Dear Lesley and Melissa: I am so sorry to read about the loss of your father Doug. My family knew your family in the 1970s when Doug MacArthur worked with my late ex-husband Denny Grimmer. In those days, your mom Diana would bring you to our house on Downham Place in Saanich for tea and to play with my children. I feel sad to read that you lost your mom in 2002. I thought very much of her and your dad. So sorry that you now have lost both your parents……………they were wonderful people and such enjoyable company. They both had a great sense of humour and a true grasp of reality.
