Doug was born in Vancouver, B.C. on September 23, 1958. He died in Victoria, B.C. at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on October 1st, 2021. He was 63. Predeceased by his father Gordon Grondahl in 1993; he is survived by his mother Shirley Barton, brothers David Grondahl (Susan) and Craig Barton, sister Susan Grondahl, nephew Carter, nieces Laura and Rylee, as well as many other relatives. He travelled to many of the places he once only dreamed about. He was kind and generous and had a wonderful sense of humour. He was loved and respected. Doug was kindly and respectfully treated by everyone at the Royal Jubilee Hospital including his doctor, Kewan Aboulhosn. To honour Doug please take the time to learn more about a disease called Sarcoidosis.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

My mom Margaret Taylor was cousin of Shirley and passed away in 2020. She looked forward over the years to everything that Doug said to her, or sent to her over the years. It could be a handmade card from a specialty shop in Oak Bay, or a telephone call, floral arrangements, and she would take so much joy in saying that she had heard from cousin Doug. I miss those days and will remember Doug for the kindness he showed to her over her life. Rest In Peace dear Doug.

I was very sad to happen upon my brother’s obituary. At one time I regarded him as my best friend who shared with me many of life’s difficulties. Many times we could find humor in our circumstances and laughter pulled us through the impossible.

Doug was a very bright man who had a natural gift teaching what he knew to others. He was a “collector” and sought out what he found intriguing. His tastes were eclectic and he was not swayed by popular opinion. In many ways he was unique and had great potential with much to offer this world.

I hope that peace has found him.

I first met Doug when he was bright and interested little blond boy of 5 or 6, full of imagination, and very articulate for his age. I know he grew into a sensitive, generous, and well-read man.

My sincerest condolences are sent to his mother Shirley, one of my dearest friends, brother Craig, and niece Rylee, and all others who knew and loved Doug.
