It breaks our hearts to announce the passing of Douglas Ross Munro on January 14, 2025. He was surrounded by love and care in his final hours. Doug was born in Victoria, BC to Donald and Barbara Munro on May 24, 1953. A born-and-raised Victoria boy, he was the oldest of four children (siblings Wendy, Jill, and Brent). His deep roots in the community started with his grandparents who emigrated from Scotland. They opened Munro’s Bakery on Government Street and passed down their business savvy and love of sweets.
Doug met the love of his life, Patricia Gordon (Trish), through mutual friends. They were married in September 1975 and built the family home on Mercer Place where they lived and raised their three girls. He was a loving and dedicated father to Gianna, Alyse, and Leah, who were the centre of his world. Doug loved a vacation in the sun – Maui was always a special place for the Munro family. The family enjoyed three generations of summers at Shawnigan Lake with the Dempsters and Umphreys, where Doug would tirelessly drive the boat for tubing, knee boarding, and waterskiing lessons.
Doug made lifelong friends at the BC Assessment Authority before following in the footsteps of his father and mentor by becoming a dedicated realtor and developer. He started his 42-year real estate career with his father’s company, Victoria Realty in the Munro Centre before moving to RE/MAX Camosun, where his warmth and unwavering dedication to his clients continued until his retirement in 2020.
Outside of work, Doug enjoyed cycling, floor hockey, gardening, and doting on his cherished grand-dog, Lady. He was an avid hockey fan, watching NHL games at home and attending Royals games with his friends. He loved cars and could be found washing his cars almost every weekend, rain or shine. Over the years, he owned seven BMWs and took great pride in his classic Mercedes Benz convertible.
Doug loved to talk; we always joked that you couldn’t take him anywhere without him running into a friend and striking up a conversation. A true professional and a gentleman, he lived by the example set by his father, who remained his greatest role model.
A service to celebrate Doug’s life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC with a reception to follow. In honour of his bright personality, we invite attendees to wear colour to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to one of the charities that he cared about; SPCA or Alzheimer Society of BC.
Condolences may be offered to the family below

Kim & Sue Bowles So sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. Our thought’s and prayers are with Pat, Wendy, Ian, Jill & Brent. And all the Family and Friends. I went to Reynolds a year behind Doug. Had the opportunity to be up to Shawnigan Lake a couple of times. So fun. Doug was such a friendly, knowledgeable, funny, professional individual. He almost bought one of our cars for one of the girls, but decided not too. Doug will not be forgotten. His legacy will live on. Lots of stories.

Danny Ireland Doug and I grew up together in the Athlone Drive/Braefoot Rd area and went to all 3 schools together – Cedar Hill/Doncaster/Reynolds. After graduation, we both were one of the first to build the famous ’70’s Shaggin Wagons. Doug’s beautiful 1967 Ford Econoline sported an elaborate Southern California trick muralled paint job, so it preceded his love of BMW’s…LOL. We went on road trips often and had great memories! Rest in Peace my good friend!

Doug was such a kind man. I was fortunate to know him. He helped me out tremendously when I was young and new to buying and selling real estate. When I moved to Comox I called Doug often and he graciously offered me more savvy advice than I could have hoped for.
I know he will be deeply missed.

Brent Munro My sincere condolence to Pat , Gianna, Alyse and Leah – Doug was a wonderful big brother to me. I was very lucky to have him as my brother, mentor in Real Estate and business partner for almost 40 years. Doug was always there for me and everyone who he came into eye contact with.
