What a day of rejoicing it was when Dr. Horton entered the presence of the Lord! I will always remember Don as a wise and godly man and when things were tough, he would always encourage us to “pray and fast”! May your family feel the love and warmth of our Lord Jesus Christ! I know he will be greatly missed by you all.
Blessings….Valerie
May you be comforted by your memories. Dr. Horton was our gentle always smiling Dr. for us student nurses at Jubilee Hospital. He was a good sport too as remember him at one of our events in residence sitting on Santa’s lap asking for cherry flavoured throat swabs – even have a picture of this! Trudging into ‘Sick Bay’ when ill and having Dr. Horton check us out is a big memory.
Hello to fellow High School friend Betty.
Dear Russ, Betty, Heather and George, Dawn and Phil & families,
We wish you our Lord’s comfort and presence during this time of mourning as you grieve the passing of your dear Dad! On the other hand it is also a celebration of the fact that Don is with the Lord. I can clearly imagine the Lord saying: “Well done thy good and faithful servant.” Only God knows the many, many lives Don touched in his lifetime, including ours. Both your parents were ‘mentors’ to us. We well remember the Bible studies at their home on Beach Drive. What amazing foundational truths we learned from your Dad, by example and from God’s Word. We loved both your parents so much. They were certainly ‘filled with the Holy Spirit’ and were the most ‘gracious’ couple we’ve ever met.
Don will be missed by so many and will never be forgotten. One day we will all be together and will be enjoying ‘Eternity’ along with Don and Margaret.
May the Lord wrap his arms around you all.
Love and Blessings,
Mike and Sandy Renaud
We have been grateful, through the years, for Dr. Don’s and Margaret’s presence at the right times, especially when my Mother, Phyllis Mackey, was still alive, and at the time of her death in the late 90s. They were discerning and noninvasive counsellors who knew how to have the right encouraging word at the right time.
Edna and I have been in Ottawa, now, for 13 years, but have appreciated periodic phone contact with Don and Margaret until the time when their health began to decline. Their counsel, Don’s particularly, on how to make the faith/political interface work in an adversarial political setting, was always useful. We are sure he would have had some interesting thoughts if only he could have lived until May 2, rather than passing on April 29.

We really appreciated your father and your mother. They were just such lovely, gracious people — always thinking of others and responding in Godly, helpful ways. Always they were positive and encouraging. We were grateful to have known them. May God fill your hearts with His peace as you adjust to your loss.
I recall Dr. Horton as one of the kindest people I ever met. He was my physician for a long time and always went that extra mile to help.
His life was a living testimony of his faith.
I remember making a journal entry some 35 years ago about Dr. Horton. It was how in so very many ways he was simply the greatest man I had ever come to know. The world is such a better place for his having been in it. Now I suspect the same thing can be said of heaven.
Our sincere condolences to Russ and the Horton family in the passing of your father. May God’s peace rest upon you at this time of remembrance and celebration of life.

My sincere condolences on the loss of your wonderful father, and particularly so soon after the loss of your mother last December. I remember Dr. Horton well from his days as the Dr. for the student nurses at the Jubilee as well as from ISCF, during my time at Oak Bay High and the Jubilee in the 60’s to early 70’s. My maiden name was Fleming.
I’m sure you have many wonderful memories of your Dad and Mom and have assurance in your hearts that you will see them again in heaven.
Again my sympathies as you grieve yet celebrate their lives.
