March 16, 1929 to February 23, 2009
Howard died in the Jubilee Hospital after a lengthy illness. His family is appreciative of the excellent care he received from medical and nursing staff and other caring and capable health care professionals. He was predeceased by his older brother, George who was killed in WW2 and a younger brother, Bill who died five years ago, survived by his widow, Marla.
A very gentle man, Howard will be sorely missed by Sheena, his wife of fifty four years and by his two sons of whom he was very proud; Stuart [Lynne, Lara and Neil] of Edmonton and Donald [Cathy, Phillip and Christopher] of Calgary and by many extended family members and friends. Howard was accepting of others, but held himself to a high standard in all things.
In 1953 on graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at Queen’s University, he spent an internship year in New England where he met his future wife Sheena Stuart, a medical graduate from the University of Glasgow. In June 1954, they were married in Scotland returning to Canada to practice medicine in Winnipeg until retiring in 1987 when they moved to the West Coast.
In retirement Howard found more time to devote to his long standing interest in history and where he formerly jogged, clocking over two thousand miles each year and completing the Winnipeg Marathon in 1980; he now was content to walk his dogs.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favourite charity.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 28th in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, Victoria, BC.

So sorry to hear the news, I know we wish our lives as they were could go on forever, but God has other plans. You almost made 55 years, Bob and I almost made 35.
Though I did not know Howard very well personally, I knew him quite well through Dad. He would always talk of George, How and Bill with that twinkle in his eye. Lost touch with the cousins a lot when I moved east but I do remember Howard’s smile and quiet presence which was also mirrored in his brother Bill.
My thoughts and prayers go with you, may God hold you close at this time and comfort you in ways you never thought possible.
He did for me and I know He can do the same for you
Love Jan
We wish you comfort and solace in the days and years ahead, Sheena, and ask you to drop in and see us at any time you wish.
The sad occasion had the blessing of allowing us to link up again
with old friends.

Hello Sheena, we were very sad to read of Howard’s death. Ann talks fondly of Howard, her doctor, and both of you as friendly neighbours on Assiniboine Crescent. He will surely be missed by all his friends and family…
Coincidentally you were also in our thoughts last week when we went to see “The Stone of Destiny ” movie.

Hello Sheena – Mary and I were saddened to read of the passing of Howard. We have not seen you two since you both retired from Winnipeg in 1987. Howard brought son John into the world in 1961, son Paul in 1963 and you brought Russell into the world in 1966. Mary and I are still in the same house in St James and go to Phoenix in the winter. Please accept our condolences, sincerely, John and Mary Bell.
Pam and I would like to express our sympathies with the family of Howard Guest,. He gave us mnny years of medical advice and support in Winnipeg which we appreciated.
Leann and I got to know Howard over the past 8 years or so and developed a deep respect and admiration for him and his lovely wife Sheena. Always a true gentleman with a generous soul we will sorely miss the dinner and conversation we always shared on our visits to Victoria. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
Sheena…very sorry to ehar of the sad news. Howard will be missed.
I worked at the Grace Hospital from 1976 to my retirement 1989 as a R.N. and had contact with both Drs. Guests. I agree he was a very caring and humble man. I also worked with Stuart in I.C.U one summer when they were seconded to a nurse and found him to be of the same ilk. It was a pleasure to know Dr. Howard Guest and I send my condolances to the family. May your many happy memories sustain you in this trying time.
Yours sincerely Lilian Freeland Parksville B.C.
We met Howard through the Canadian Club of Victoria.

You will be missed Howard.
We send all the family our condolences and hope that happy memories will comfort you in your loss.
