It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Lucretia van den Berg on January 23rd, 2025 at the age of 72. In 1983, Lucretia established a private Practice in Edmonton specialising in Endocrinology which she later moved to Victoria in 1992. Lucretia is predeceased by her late partner, Dr. Jerry Tenenbaum. I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Van Den Berg’s death. For many years she was my Endocrinologist, and she always had interesting information to give me. We also used to chat about non-medical stuff as I am from London, UK. I remember how the loss of her partner devastated her because she was deeply affected.

Dr. Van den Berg was my doctor for several years. Very sad to hear of her passing. She took a sincere interest in all her patients, was kind, compassionate and gave wonderful hugs! Your mother kept me up to date with what you were up to Tyler and spoke of you with motherly tenderness. May your happy memories be a comfort to you at this sad time. I believe she is with Jerry now and still watching over you.
Sincere condolences to all the family.

When I first met Dr Van Den Berg over 20 years ago she told me it was my lucky day as someone had just cancelled a specialized treatment at the hospital and I could take that appt. It was indeed my lucky day as she was a kind and trusted physician and I remained her patient until she retired.
I remember how fondly she talked of her son and had his photo in the office. We both had children living in London Uk for a time and she was so proud of him.

Tyler, I’m very sorry for your loss.

I knew Lucretia for many years and had great respect and fondness for her. Our paths first crossed because we were both working with the Trans community in the early 1990s. Lucretia was a compassionate pioneer. For many years, she was the only endocrinologist in Victoria who served the needs of the Trans community. She was an excellent doctor who treated her Trans patients with kindness and respect, which was something that not many doctors did back then.

I hope that Lucretia has found Jerry again and that they are enjoying another life together.

My condolences to Dr. van den Berg’s family, friends and medical colleagues she treasured. She is a great loss to our community. She was dedicated, kind and caring to her patients and one of the first to start a women’s health clinic in her practice. I will miss her not only as being my physician for some years but most important as being a wonderful human being! -Pat Taylor
