Eileen Ferne Fell (nee Dallas) born Dec. 30, 1928, passed away peacefully Aug. 2, 2025, in Saanich Peninsula Hospital, at the age of 96, after a brief illness. She slipped away in the presence of her two sons and daughters-in-law, after eloquently saying her loving goodbyes to all her grandchildren, great grandchildren and close friends. What a gift she gave to all of us. She was predeceased by her dear husband Glenn, close brother and sister-in-law Glenn and Gail Dallas, and her precious great grandson Roman. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Ron (Diana) and Doug (Marilyn), grandchildren Dana (Jon), Aaron, Amanda (Jan) and Graeme (Maria), great grandchildren Alyssa and Andrew, and fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews in the Fell and Dallas families. She was delighted that she also came to be known as just “Grandma” to countless other young family friends and family connected by marriage. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends and neighbours in the Summergate community.

Born in Hettinger, North Dakota to L.D and Florence Dallas, she grew up in Vancouver, Washington. She played baseball, basketball and flute, and attended Western Washington University to become a teacher. She was sailing to Juneau, Alaska for a teaching job when she met Glenn Fell, the handsome young assistant purser on the Prince George cruise liner. After a whirlwind courtship, they married in 1955. They lived in Summerland, B.C. where they owned a bowling lane, and Ronnie and Dougie were born. Glenn’s work in first Municipal, then Federal Government offices moved them to Squamish, Victoria, and Brentwood Bay (where Eileen did some teaching and coached girls’ basketball); the retirement years were spent in Saanich and finally Sidney. Eileen was a great golfer; they loved their times golfing with friends at Prospect Lake Club and golf trips to Hawaii, California, western Canada and Portugal. Family camping trips and trips to Disneyland, Las Vegas, Alaska and New York with grandkids were very special. After Glenn passed away, Eileen lived independently and vibrantly in her own little home at Summergate Village until the very end. She loved to watch all professional sports, she drove her own car, her prowess at bowling and shuffleboard remained legendary, and her laugh filled every room. The biggest joy of her life was spending time with her sons, grandchildren and all their partners and her great grandkids (who nicknamed her ‘GrandGirl’). She loved us all so much and gave the best hugs.

Eileen’s family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Saanich Peninsula and Victoria General Hospitals, especially Dr. Beck and Dr. I. Mackenzie, for their skilled and compassionate care. Our thanks also to her special ‘friends-like-family’: Cass, Gary, Michelle, Kevin and Sue, who were angels in Eileen’s life in the past year.

“Thanks for the lemon cookies” …. “Love you lots” .… “Miss you already”

Eileen will be truly missed. We first met her back in the 80’s at Town and Country lanes where we bowled with her in the Thursday night league. More recently we bowled with her at Miracle Lanes in Sidney. At 95 years of age last year she bowled a 300 game. She was an amazing woman and will be truly missed. Always had a great smile.
    Our deepest condolences.
