July 5, 1926 – July 23, 2012

With deepest sadness, the family of Eleanor Constance Metcalfe, announce her passing at home at the age of 86. Eleanor enjoyed an active life involving water colour art, flower arranging, sewing and tending her garden. She worked as a commercial artist for many years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, David of 59 years; 3 daughters, Margaret (Al), Sandra (Bruce), Heather (Roy); grandchildren, Amena (Alan), Megan (Mark), Andrew, Morgan, Tawni, Andre, Alexandra, Savannah; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Katelyn, Christopher and many relatives and friends. Eleanor was born in Duncan, predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Malcolm Leslie-Melville and sister Peggy. Eleanor with Dave lovingly raised their family in their Esquimalt home where they remained for 43 years before moving to the Renaissance Retirement Residence. Eleanor extended hospitality to many by invitation into their home, or by creating a special floral arrangement. Her heart was kind and her smile warm. Eleanor spent over 65 years in the choirs of St. John’s and St. Paul’s Anglican Churches and on the Flower Guilds. She was a longtime member of the Victoria Flower Arrangers Association. Mom and Dad built a beautiful life with their hands, their hearts, their faith and their love. Special thanks to the kind and caring staff and friends at the Renaissance and the Emergency Response teams that attended to mom.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 2 pm, at the Parish of St. Peter and St. Paul (St. Paul Naval Garrison Church), 1379 Esquimalt Rd. followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered below.

On behalf of the Victoria Ostomy Chapter, I would like to express my sincere sympathy to Dave and his family. Eleanor spent many hours doing special projects for our Chapter and they were always so beautiful and in good taste. I have a beautiful 3-D picture that Eleanor did. You will be missed by your family and especially your Dave.

    David and the girls.

We cherish our memories at St Paul’s. David, you and Eleanor put our feet on the path towards Anglicanism by opening your home and your hearts to us when we first moved to Victoria and married. You were my “parents away from home” and great friends. Eleanor was a charm to sing in the choir with and you have been an excellent pourer of scotch. Cynthia and our two girls and our blessed grand daughter, Hannah, send you our deep condolences and our prayers. Not only is there another great angelic singer in heaven today but the flowers around the pearly gates are being spruced up as we speak. Blessings!

Heather & Roy and all….our deepest condolences for your loss. Your mother had a wonderful “spark” which she obviously passed on to her beautiful daughters. I wish you all great peace during this time.

Please send my best regards to the whole Metcalfe family. My heart and prayers are with you all… I have had the pleasure of knowing Eleanor & Dave for over 34 years as a classmate to Heather in high school. They’re the most warm, funny, generous, sincere, compassionate people I came to know. I will always remember Eleanor’s vibrant smile, the wonderful flower arrangements she made and just the welcoming nature, going to her home was always a special time. Thank you Eleanor for all the fond memories, you will be dearly missed by us all. Love, Margo & Family
