After a courageous battle, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elisabeth Gschiel on May 02, 2016 in Victoria, BC. Elisabeth was born in Vienna, Austria on November 14, 1936. She came to Canada as a teen with her parents and sister and settled in Victoria, later worked as a seamstress at Page the Cleaners, then married and had a family. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She will also be remembered for her strong will, generous nature and her love of cooking and baking, gardening, travelling, Scratch ‘N’ Wins and casino outings.

Elisabeth (Mom) (Oma) will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Eddy; her children, Walt (Lynn), Chris (Peter), Ed (Vicki); her grandchildren, Bryan, Kendall (Matt), Ally, Rachel and many friends she made over the years.

Thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and a special thank you to everyone at the Jubilee’s Dialysis Unit.

Eddy, I was so sorry to hear about Elizabeth. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I remember with fondness you and Elizabeth invited mum and I for tea and tasted her delicious baked goodies. Elizabeth was a wonderful, kind person, always thinking of others.

Heartfelt prayers and thoughts to the Gschiel family and my good friend Ed. Ed is a genuinely good person and great friend and from reading the messages posted it is evident that Elisabeth cultivated her family with the same passion she had with gardening and cooking. If Elisabeth shared the same deep laughter that Ed expresses it would have been a blessing to all.
    God Bless

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gschiel family. Although we have only had the great pleasure of knowing one member of the immediate family (Ed), that is enough to convince us of the quality of the person that Elisabeth must have been. Hopefully the great number of miles between us does nothing to diminish the knowledge that we share in your loss at this most difficult time. Heartfelt condolences from your friends in Halifax.

Our hearts go out to the Gschciels during this difficult time. Through my friendship with Chris, I have known Elisabeth for over forty years. Her love of gardening was evident when one visited her and Ed at their home. I loved getting garden tips from her. One of my most cherished memories are the wonderful luncheons Elisabeth would make for me when I visited Victoria. I can still hear her laughter when I licked my plate clean. She was a wonderful cook. Once she found out what my favourite pastry was, she would make sure she had some on my return visit. She even had the pastries delivered to me in Kelowna.
She was a real fighter, I admired her strenth and determination even in times of adversity. I will miss her shy smile, hercompassion and her generosity.
