It is with a heavy, heavy heart that we make the announcement of the passing of our son, Elliot Cleveland Eurchuk. He was Brock Eurchuk and Rachel Staples oldest son and was just short of 17 years old. Born on July 11, 2001, Elliot died peacefully on April 20, 2018 in Victoria, BC.
Elliot endured terrible difficulties over the past two years. He was confronted with challenges that no child should have to endure. In 2017 Elliot had 4 surgical procedures and was prescribed opioids around every surgery even though his parents requested alternatives. During February 2018 Elliot was back in the hospital for 3 weeks for an infection – again opioids were used for pain management. At 16 the Health Care system granted Elliot full autonomy to direct his medical treatment while specifically having his parents excluded from this information. This policy needs to be reviewed. Parents need to participate in their child’s health care.
Elliot had a sharp wit. His sense of humour was far beyond his short years. He loved rugby, soccer, boxing, hiking, good food, travelling and he was an avid reader.
He greatly valued his friendships and approached friends with sincere consideration and genuine kindness. He read more books in his short life, than Brock and Rachel put together! He loved chemistry and had hopes of pursuing a career in medicine. For those of us lucky enough to really know Elliot, you knew he would give the shirt off his back to help you. As a sportsman he showed strong leadership abilities.
We will all miss bright, quirky, funny sporty Elliot. We love you son.
Rest in Peace and breath easy.
Mom, Dad, Isaac, Oliver, Abbey and Sydney
Elliot was loved so dearly by his Grampa and Grandma Staples and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Service to Celebrate Elliot’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC, with Pastor Bob Opperman officiating. Cremation. Refreshments will follow the service.

Dear Brock and Rachel,
Having known Elliot through the YMCA and appreciated him for the kind, interesting, and unfailingly polite young man he was, I am deeply saddened for your loss. I cannot imagine your grief.
Elliot always took time to say hello, have a small chat about school or his activities, or ask how things were going. You were raising a wonderful, thoughtful son. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Words cannot express how I feel especially being a parent myself. Remember all the good, loving times you had with Elliot and he will live on in your hearts forever. xoxoxoxo
To all family members, my sincerest sympathy on the loss of your son. The path and the passage that both your son and your families will take is going to be very difficult. Having lost very dear family members over the last few years, the healing process will happen, but, as everyone says, their hearts, their love, and memories will live on forever. Everyone on Government Street, (Dockside Gifts) thoughts are with you.
Brock, Rachel and family
