Sadly, we said goodbye to Emily Maria Thomson. She passed suddenly at the age of 87 years old. Emily was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be remembered fondly by her son Clayton (Charlene), grandchildren Matthew, Bryanne and daughter Karmen (Lorne), grandchildren Naomi (Dustin) and Hayden (Amanda), and great grandchild Noel.
Emily was predeceased by her loving husband Donald. The love they shared will continue as they are now reconnected for eternity. Emily grew up in a large family in Alberta and moved to Vancouver at an early age. She is survived by her sisters Judy McKenzie and Kathy Joyce. Predeceased by her parents and sisters Elsie Parker, Victoria Honeybourne, Marie Paterson and brothers John and Bill Balanecki. She grew up in Hamlin Alberta and was brought into the world to Anastasia “Sadie” and Nick Balanecki.
Through the years they lived in Calgary, AB, Lloydminster, AB and Mara Lake, BC for retirement. Don and Emily bought and ran Kingbaker Creek Resort. She was fondly known by many as “Emmy” or “Aunty Em”. She loved the children; not many left after camping without a bag full of candies (much to the chagrin of the parents). The last few years were spent in Victoria at the Alexander Mackie Lodge where she met new friends and continued to enjoy her love of card playing and Bingo. Emily kept herself busy crocheting, enjoyed time at the Legion on Saturdays at the meat draws, bingo as much as possible with her friends and even the occasional trip to the Casino.
She was happiest when visitors arrived, new and old, tipping a glass of wine, and of course being with her one true love Donald.
Our hearts will be with her always.
Love you Mom!
