Brian & David –
My sincere condolences on the loss of your brother. In the 15 years I knew Eric, I came to appreciate the little eccentricities that made Eric so unique. He was a kind and unique man – and I am glad I told him so in the weeks prior to his passing. I will miss our little chats.
I met Eric in 1980 when I started dating Chris Smith, whose sister was married to Brian. Eric & I remained friends after Chris & I broke up. Eric enjoyed beating me at backgammon & othello & I liked to prune his many house plants when I visited him. He was a great cook & I enjoyed sharing a few dinners with him. Unfortunately, over the last 5 years he & I lost touch, which was my fault. It was a shock to see his obituary in the newspaper. I wish I could have been there for him.
Sorry for your loss.

Eric was a very dear friend of mine, we met while working on campus at U-Vic in 1981 then ended up working together for the
Provincial AG Ministry into the 90’s. We shared a uncanny synchronicity which made us smile when we would each have our hair
cut the same day or pick up the phone just as one was going to call the other. One time on one of our many work trips throughout
BC we even met up in the airport from different flights. Ahh the good times we had with hotels, rent a cars and swimming pools 🙂
My wife Lori & I cherished the many video nights that we shared with Eric in his Willis Point paradise with a crackling fire and
good cheer. Thanks for the memories, we will miss you deeply.

I first met Eric 30 years ago. Our friendship was instant and continued to grow. We always got along well and talked about lots of different subjects. Eric and I had several adventures such as bike riding, nature walks and exploring, gardening and meeting his mom Emma several times. Eric was a big part of our families life. Years of dinners, BBQ’s and pool swimming at our home. He loved our pets Tazmin our cat and our dog Ace. Eric was always at our boys birthdays and baseball games. Many times swimming, snorkeling and movie nights at his Willis Point home. Eric enjoyed his last Christmas dinner with us. Brent, my husband Art and I continued to support Eric in his last few weeks; bringing him home, grocery shopping, medical supplies and any errands he needed. My bond was strong with Eric, I shampooed his hair and held his hand during his last night before his passing. I greatly miss my dear friend Eric. Memories ebb and flow…like the ocean he so loved.
To both Brian and David: My prayers are with you on the loss of your dear brother. May you find comfort with your memories.
God Bless,
We were sorry to hear of Eric’s passing. Reading about him, however, brought back many fond childhood memories playing with all the brothers out at Willis Point. These memories will remain with me forever.
Please accept our sincere condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole family at this sad time.
Sincerely, Mark & Dianne Twamley
I was so saddened to see Eric’s photo when I read through the obits two days ago — thank you for including the picture of him. Eric looks exactly like the much younger man whose company I enjoyed for a few dates in the early 1980’s when he would have been in mid mid- to late- 20’s. Eric was living in the apartments at the corner of Quadra and McKenzie — I lived not too far from Swan Lake myself. I was a single mother at the time and frequently enjoyed walking my son around Swan Lake and that is where I met Eric. He was always so kind and thoughtful when it came to including my son on our few dates. I also remember Eric had a regimen of jogging around Swan Lake daily — and I believe he recorded the times, always trying to improve his speed. He was so funny, and even now I cannot quite remember how it was that we parted company. Eric Paul — such a handsome, funny and thoughtful man; I am so very sorry for your family’s loss.

It’s with great sadness reading about Eric’s passing. I was his neighbor for almost 20years at Ocean Park Manor in Esquimalt. We shared many stories of each others lives and I remember his love of surfing and his many trips to NIT NAT. Eric was a computer wiz and often helped with my naivety having to do with computer problems. I will remember him as a kind and gentle man whom was always there if you needed a helping hand. Eric was a great neighbor and friend and will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP. my old friend/neighbor I will remember you always with fondness.
David and Brian, I am so sorry to have read of Eric’s passing. I have fond memories of your home on Lansdowne and playing with the three of you in your multi-purpose yard. I hope you and your families are well, Karen and Neil in Parksville.
I first met Eric when I started dating his middle brother Brian. We were all in our twenties.
Eric was a handsome dark haired young man who loved windsurfing – he would find the best spots and put his board in the water and fly- he must have felt truly free and happy as the skimmed along the water… As the years passed he continued his solitary life but I believe he was content in his choice of lifestyle. Eric always had time for his nieces and nephews. Brian and I had 2 daughters, Charlotte and Mallory. Eric adored the girls and they in turn enjoyed the time spent with him at family events. I am happy that Brian continued to have our daughters spend family time with Eric after our divorce. Eric organized ‘treasure hunts’ at the camp and other little challenges to the delight of Charlotte and Mallory . As the girls grew into the young women they are today, Eric always took an interest in their lives . He had an engaging sense of humor appreciated by the girls through the years. During Eric’s lengthy illness Brian has been by Eric’s side, not easy at times, as Eric could be stubborn ! Charlotte and Mallory were proud knowing that their Dad was with Eric providing support both physically and emotionally during this difficult debilitating illness.
I’m happy Eric was at the Camp for his last few days- looking out at the ocean he loved.
I hope his spirit soars with the wind and he finds peace now he has been released from his pain and suffering
Happy memories of a man with a good kind heart-
Catherine
