November 19, 1925 – October 11, 2015
Eric passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ, at The Lodge at Broadmead. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Helen and son Wallace (Doris), daughter Sharon (Tito), brothers Bruce, Richard (Beverly) and David (Irene), grandchildren Aaron and Benjamin de Castro, Kimberly Burkart (Jason), Deanna Rosenlund (Jordan), Jacqueline McMorran (Tyler Hass), 4 great-grandchildren Gracia, Hudson, Nora, Georgia and many nieces and nephews. Eric was born in Victoria and lived and worked here his whole life. He signed up with the Royal Canadian Navy and was stationed in Halifax during the WWII; returning to the family business. Like his father George, his passions were family, business and community. He was principally known as Mr. Hospitality through the BC Motels and Resorts association and volunteered with many Hospitality Boards. He is most remembered as host and friend at the family business, particularly in the SeaView Ball Room with its Big Band Dance events, where many started relationships and created fond memories. Eric was a Brother in Saint Andrew’s Masonic Lodge AF&AM for over 65 years. His discipline of the values of the Lodge reflected in his caring of family and community through his life. Most important in all things were his reverence for God and worship as a member of Centennial United Church fellowship. Most remembered will be his animated, bright and caring attitude to all.
There will be a private, family service and interment. Reception for friends and community is Tuesday October 20, 2015 from 2:30 – 4:00 at The Beach House, 5109 Cordova Bay Rd. Parking in the lot across the street or on Cordova Bay Rd. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to The Lodge at Broadmead or a charity of your choice. Condolences for the family may be offered below.

Stephanie Branyik Oh dear Mr. M as we waitresses at McMorrans called him – as he shuffled in with pilons ” there’s a group of 8 coming down girls”. What a wonderfully committed community driven family man he was. I will always remember him with a smile. My deepest sympathies Mrs M, Wallace, Sharon & family. I count many happy memories with you all at the Beach House!!! I live on the other side of the country now – but Mount Doug & Cordova Bay will always be home sweet home. Yours most sincerely, Stephanie

Ron Grant It is with great sadness to hear of Eric’s passing and my sincerest condolences to all of the McMorran family but know that your strong faith will give you the strength and comfort you need at this time. I had the pleasure to know and work with Eric over many years in the hospitality industry and it was always a pleasure to be in his presence – a true gentleman who loved life, everyone around him and also enjoyed to laugh. His enthusiasm and class were contagious. I made a point of always saying hello to Eric every year at the cenotaph on Remembrance Day as he proudly was there to lay a wreath. Gone, but never to be forgotten by anyone who knew him, is a VERY GOOD MAN!

Drew Snider Eric left a great legacy of hospitality and a welcoming spirit. I remember him driving me home after an event at C-FAX Radio in the late 90s, and pointing out the historical locations and other trivia along the route from downtown to Gordon Head. Also memories of him shovelling snow in the parking lot outside McMorran’s and checking up on the place after I’d finished a gig for Denny’s Canned Music — that means, coming out at 1 AM! I saw that welcoming and hospitable spirit and attitude in his son, Wallace: talk about a life well-lived!
Without a doubt a man for the ages. I will always remember Eric. My joy of working with him at McMorran’s beachhouse will stay with me forever.
With much warmth and love,
Bobbi-Jean
