June 18, 1913 – May 23, 2012

It is with great sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of Ethel on May 23, 2012 at Kiwanis Pavilion. She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Wood and her second husband, Thomas Carrington, and was a beloved mother to Richard Wood and his wife Wendy. She also leaves behind her granddaughter Sheila and two great-grandchildren Trae and Robert, plus numerous cousins in New York and Bermuda, and numerous extended family members. A bastion of community service, Ethel was an active member with Victoria Navy League and a long standing member of the Victoria Historical Society. Upon retiring from the Post Office, she spent many years serving hot soup at the Upper Room. She also volunteered for Christ Church Cathedral doing hospital visits at Mount St. Mary’s and Mt. Edwards. Special thanks for the support of her many close friends and the staff at Kiwanis Pavilion for their unwavering compassion and support.

A Funeral Service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, Burdett & Quadra on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 2:30pm with a Reception to follow in the Chapter Room.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB, 2340 Richmond Rd., Victoria, BC V8R 4R9 or Heart & Stroke Foundation, #107-1001 Cloverdale Ave., Saanich, BC V8X 4C9.  Condolences may be offered below.

It is with great sadness we noted the passing of Aunt Ethel.
Her bright and cheery person was a joy for all she came in contact with.
I have fond memories of her and uncle Tom visiting my familys home in Hedley and later of visits to see them when we came to Victoria.
She was truly a person who made the world a brighter and better place. Deepest sympathies,
    the Thomas family

Richard, I am sending this on behalf of my mother, Beth Haynes. My parents, Beth & Barry Haynes, were Linden Street neighbours of your mother. They had fond memories of all the years they knew Tom & Ethel and of all the occasions that the neighbours got together.

Our Condolences to Ethel’s family. Gene & I remember Ethel from the days we spent at the Rainbow Barracks and the Navy League Branch. We have many happy memories from the meals we prepared for the Cadets and the Open-houses and Annual Inspections.
Hard to believe how fast Gorden’s 10 & Brenda’s 8 years at cadets went by , now both grown & married.
Especially fun, where the times the Branch & officers had at the Christmas Pot-Luck dinners and Gift sharing. Ethel was always smiling and cheerful. Take good care and remember to smile.

    Gene & Jette Denluck
