October 28, 1919-May 27, 2013
It is with great sadness and the fondest of memories that we announce the passing of Ethel on May 27, 2013 in Victoria. She was born on October 28, 1919 in Penistone, England to Ethel M. Cox (nee Holland) and Albert Edward Cox.
Predeceased by her first husband Ralph Leslie Clarke who perished whilst serving aboard HMCS Fraser in 1940, she married Robert Coulter in 1948 in Victoria. He passed away in 1984. She is also predeceased by her parents; sister, Phyllis (Patrick) and brother, Richard (Emily). She is survived by her son, Robert (Marilyn) and daughter, Margaret Laxton (Keith) and her grandchildren, Sarah (Johann) and Ian (Chelsea) and step-grandchildren, Emily, Graham and Hugh Denton.
Ethel grew up in England, Southern Ontario and Saskatchewan moving to Victoria after WW2. For many years, she worked for the Canadian Hydrographic Service in Victoria and Pat Bay before retiring to Osoyoos where she became an active gardener. She was a talented knitter, artist and accomplished baker with a marvellous sense of perspective and humour. Ethel left a rich legacy for her children, grandchildren and friends. She personified goodness and charity in everything she did. Ethel bestowed the greatest gifts one can give: unconditional love, profound selflessness, gentle kindness and a deep devotion to family. Her spirit was innately generous in all things. Ethel is sorely missed by her extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Alice Parrett My deepest sympathy in the loss of your dear mother Ethel.
My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your beloved mother and grandmother. She was enormously kind to me, and I still treasure a beautiful hand made granny square shawl that she made for me forty years ago. It is one of my most precious belongings. Ethel was a kind and caring woman. I think of her often. Sincerely, bonnie
