Ruth King was my great aunt. She loved her school kids so much! Her sister was my grandma and she limited our access to Ruth but in Ruth’s later years, we loved to visit her without restriction. Small and mighty. Compassionate and loving. She showed us how she marked all of the books in the library so that she knew that she read them and how she felt about them. While caring for students, Aunt Ruth lived with my Great Grandma Clara. She was an exceptionally strong, wise and compassionate woman.

Miss King offered me my first teaching position in 1975 and I worked for her until her retirement in 1978. I can only concur with the comments above …. a remarkable and strong personality who did it her way! I am priviledged to have know her. My condolences to all her family and friends.

Miss King was my principal from grade one till she retired at the end of my grade six year and Mr.King took over for my grade seven year and I always remember her as an amazing leader. She was firm and didn’t put up with shenanigans perpetrated mainly by all those dirty smelly boys but I also remember how sweet she could be when needed. She is one of the first strong female role models in my life that I will always be soo grateful to have met.

Miss King was my principal from Kindergarten until she retired and then the school was renamed from Langford Elementary to Ruth King Elementary. I also remember her beehive hair. I often saw her as I was lucky enough to get to ring the bells for recess and lunch as I was a hall monitor. This was before automated bells and I was so excited to be “in control” of the bells. My condolences to her family and friends. What a long and exciting life!

Nice to see names above that I recognize from our days at the school.

I was 6 years of age, attending Grade 1, when I first met Miss King in 1961, who was then principal of Langford Elementary School. While she was strict requiring the best behaviours from her children she was also very fair, and she knew the names of all the children who attended her school. Years later when I was in my early 40’s I met Miss King again in Victoira and she still remembered who I was. She was a big influence in my education and I will always remember Ms. King with great fondness.

When we are young we somethimes don’t appriciate what people like Miss King do form us, she was harsh at times but always fair, she was my Pricipal in grades 6 & 7 when I moved out to Langford from Sannich in 1971 I will always remember the ‘Bell’ used to get our attention, at the begining of the PA annoucement. my condolences to her family and friends.
    R.I.P. Miss King.

Miss King (as I think of her) was my principal at the beginning of my teaching career and during the last three years of her own. Tough, but fair, she was a unique individual who demanded the best from her teachers and students. I respected her as a dedicated professional and liked her as a person — although she did make me nervous at times!
My condolences to her friends and family.

Mrs. King, as I’ll remember her, was my Principal for 6 years. I will always remember her for her amazing “beehive” hairdo which, to a 6 year old, seemed to make her a foot taller than her small height. She stood up for me when my parents asked to take me out of school to live in Barbados for several months. My teacher said I would have to repeat the year. Mrs. King asked instead that I keep a journal of my experiences; to print and draw everyday. The book I completed for her (at 7yrs old) is one of my prized possessions, full of amazing adventures. Her support and encouragement gave me a lasting love for school. Tough but fair, I will always remember her.

Miss King was my principal grade one till I left in grade 4. She gave me and my brother the strap for skipping out in grade 3, I’ve always remembered her fondly and with a pride because she was a great lady and her walking down the hall with her heels and bracelets would put the fear of God in you. May you sing with the angels Miss King we need more like you.
