October 13, 1915 – October 16, 2010
Our dear mother passed away peacefully at Mt. Tolmie Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Percy; son, Fred and granddaughter, Kathy and leaves to mourn, her sister, Dorothy (Foley) in Kamloops; her children, Ruth Russell, Lorraine Perry, Betty (Dave) Gawley, Don and daughter-in-law Darlene; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews in Kamloops, Vancouver and Victoria and many friends. Born and raised on the Blackwell Ranch (her family’s home) in Kamloops with 6 brothers and 3 sisters, she married Percy when she was 19 years old. Together they raised their family in Edmonton and Vancouver, finally settling in Victoria. They travelled throughout the U.S., England and Hawaii and made many trips to see the Kamloops that she loved. Mum was a member of the IOF and the Lady Lions Clubs for many years. While raising her 5 children, she enjoyed knitting and sewing and was a wonderful cook. In later years, she took up palette painting and has left many lovely paintings to remember her by. Mum made everyone feel welcome with her big smile and arms wide open. She was especially proud of her family and was interested in everything we did while teaching us there is goodness in everyone. “We will miss you mum!” We want to give our special thanks to the very kind staff at the Mt. Tolmie Hospital for their cheerful and loving care to mum for the past 3 ½ years.

A Service of Remembrance will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in McCall’s Family Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined; tributes, if desired would be appreciated to the charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

Florence was a long time and dear friend of my Nana, Amy Mowat. I have fond memories of their get togethers, sometimes with the rest of the “gals”, sometimes just the two of them chatting away over coffee at the kitchen table. What I will remember the most is her lovely smile, and how she always would take the time to talk to me as a child, really talk to me, ask me questions and listen to me chat away as kids do. I know she meant alot to my dearest Nana, and I will always remember her with a smile. My sincerest condolences to her entire family, I know she will be missed and her memory cherished.

When I was a young girl living in James Bay, my friend’s mum and dad invited me to go on my very first holiday. We went to Parksville and spent a week on the beach and even a movie in Qualicum, WOW, What wonderful parents Mr and Mrs Frampton were. I will never forget either of them. Thank you so much for many great memories

We should celebrate a life well lived. Born from a pioneering farming family, Aunty Florence was a very positive influence on life and showed the ‘way’. Her priorities were well defined ‘family first’ . Aunty Florence was well loved and admired and contributed to all lives to the very end. What a legacy.
    Love Agnes

Our sincerest Sympathy in the loss of you Mom
She was, to me, the finest lady and friend I know.

We interconnected with the Greater Victoria Lions Auxillary. She was there when I needed help when I became President. She was always ready with a smile and a good Hug. She was a very faithful and dedicated member of the Auxillay. and she will be truly missed.
My Love and Prayers to you both.

Our Hugs, Robin and Bryan Mee

  • Ken Blackwell

I’ll always remember Auntie Florence’s warmth and kindness, when Alan and I were very young and her home with our cousins was an exciting place to visit, and then when she was in her 80s and I visited her a few times to give her news of Mom.
