It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Floyd Mailhot on March 22, 2026. In his final days, he was surrounded by family, friends, and meaningful moments of connection, making his loss especially difficult to accept.
Born in Westlock, Alberta, Floyd will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Ethel. He leaves behind his son Nicholas and daughter-in-law Amy, as well as his sister Carol (Doug), half-sister Marlene, half-brother Randy, and his beloved walking companion, Miley. He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Luella, and his sister Bonnie.
Floyd dedicated his career to public service with the BC Government, contributing to the Ministries of Recreation and Sports, Highways Development, and BC Systems and Computer Development. He was widely respected for his professionalism, kindness, and strong leadership, forming many enduring friendships that carried on well beyond his working years.
He had a passion for golf, hiking, skiing, and chocolate. Floyd especially valued the time he spent travelling the world with Ethel. He deeply cherished his son, always looking forward to the moments they shared and taking immense pride in his accomplishments. In retirement, Floyd continued to give back to his community through his involvement with the North Saanich Parks Committee, the Mary Winspear Centre Board of Directors, and his efforts in maintaining and improving local parks.
Floyd will be remembered as a kind and caring man who was always ready to offer help, encouragement, or simply his presence. He carried himself with quiet grace, making others feel valued and at ease. Through his genuine compassion and steady integrity, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met, showing that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound and lasting impact.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In keeping with his wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Victoria Humane Society.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Dana Charlton I have fond memories of working with Floyd at the Ministry of Transportation. Of course there was a connection because Mrs. Mailhot was my high school counsellor at Stelly’s High School for Grad 1990. Mrs. Mailhot – my heartefelt condolences to you and your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Dana Charlton

Joan Trill I’m thinking of you all at this most difficult of times. Floyd was such a great person and leaves behind many fond memories; mine is of the week-long canoe trip the 4 of us paddled around the Bowron Lakes chain in BC. It was an amazing adventure and I’m so glad we got to do that together. Take care.

Kathryn Kemp Floyd was my Director at the Ministry of Transportation & Highways, ISB. He was very well respected and also just a very nice man. The memory that always comes to mind when I think of Floyd was when I was offered a a really great temporary opportunity at BCSC, but he had to say no as he no one to cover me. I quickly booked a meeting with him to discuss the issue further & proceeded to immediately start crying in his office. He took one look at me & promptly said “ok”. He had a big heart. Sending my deepest condolences to Floyd’s family. He will be missed ❤️
