It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our loving father, husband and brother, Fouad Majaess in the early morning of November 1st, 2020 in Victoria, B.C. Born in Bhamdoun Village, Lebanon, Fouad immigrated to Halifax, N.S. in the late 1970’s for a better life and to escape the civil war.
Fouad obtained a B.Sc. (Mathematics) and an M.Sc. (Mathematics and Computer Science) from Dalhousie University and spoke three languages fluently (Arabic, English and French). During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Evangeline, moved to Toronto and then settled with their two daughters (Namat-Maria and Gabriella) in Victoria B.C. in 1993.
Predeceased by his parents Gebrael and Souad Majaess, in-laws Konstantinos and Marouso Paravalos and his brother in-law Nazih Farah. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Evangeline [Namat-Maria and Gabriella (Fiancé Roberto)]; brothers Elias and George, sister Nehmat (Zeina, Jana and Ghina); brother and sister in-law Evangelos and Adriana Paravalos (Katerina, Christian and Natalie); Families of Fred Majaess, Spiro Matta, Halim Matta, Daoud Matta; and the Families of the Late Michael Majaess, Brahim Majaess, Sleiman Majaess, Assaad Majaess, Amin Majaess, Mary Majaess Khairallah, and Samira Matta.
Fouad was known as a very hard working, devoted and generous man, both professionally and personally. Fouad spent 32 years working as a Senior Computer Systems Analyst for Environment Canada in the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis division. Fouad was a loving and caring husband and father, a marriage and relationship with his wife and daughters most dream of. Although a quiet man, Fouad had a gentle smile and kindness that drew people to find comfort in him. Fouad will be missed and was dearly loved by all. His memories will not be forgotten and he will be cherished forever.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Ypapanti Greek Orthodox Church in Victoria B.C., however, due to COVID-19 guidelines, this will be a closed service. A livestream will be available for those who would like to attend virtually.

I am deeply saddened hearing of Fouad’s passing. I haven’t seen him or talked to him since he left Bhamdoun, so it has been over forty years. He left his Mark on me however as a nice, wonderful and thoughtful man. May his soul Rest in Peace. Naji Boutros ( my mother is Moujaes)
I have known Fouad ever since he came to work with the group. He was one of the most pleasant and positive people I have known and he was smart, helpful, and technically adept as well. His work was very important to the group over many years. His death is a loss to us all and especially to his family. Barbara and I offer our heartfelt condolences.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Fouad’s sudden passing. I met Fouad in late 80’s and early 90’s at the Downsview office of Environment Canada in Toronto during my postdoc time there. He was always ready to help. My deepest condolence to Fouad’s family.
Like everyone Fouad worked with I was terribly saddened to learn of his unexpected passing, and hope Evangeline, Namat and Gabby can find comfort and peace in this difficult time. Fouad was a valued colleague for 18 years and was unfailingly helpful, professional and above all cheerful and kind in the workplace. That today’s online tribute and remembrance drew 65 current and former colleagues from across Canada speaks to the incredibly high regard Fouad was held in by all he worked with.
I was deeply saddened to hear of Fouad’s sudden passing. I first met Fouad in June 1996 when I started my postdoctoral research in CCCma in Victoria. I received lots of kind help from him even after I moved back to Toronto and joined CDAS section. Fouad will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to the Majaess family.
My sincere condolences for your loss. I have not worked very closely with Fouad, but over the last 10+ years I have always enjoyed his friendly smile and kind words in passing within CCCma’s hallways, coffee breaks or Christmas parties. It was a shock to hear he was gone. Best wishes to you in these challenging times.
I am so saddened to hear of Fouad’s passing. My deepest condolences to everyone he loved. He was so welcoming to me when I began to work with CCCma a few years ago. He will be missed by many of us at ECCC. His impact on our work will not be forgotten. Wishing you peace and love, Felicia
My deepest condolences to the Majaess family. I have worked with Fouad throughout the past years without meeting him in person. He was a pillar. He will always be remembered.

I was very sorry to hear the sad news of your loss. Fouad and I started at CCCma at about the same time in Toronto, so I’ve known him for over 30 years. Before he moved with the group to Victoria, we worked closely together on a number of projects. Since then, we remained in contact by email and telephone. I have always known him to be both considerate and amicable throughout all these years. He will certainly be missed.
