July 15, 1924 – Nov 12, 2013

Predeceased by her beloved husband Donald of 62 years. Lovingly remembered by her sons, Stephen (Susan), Dean (Sherry), Craig (Catriona) and grandchildren, Lauren, Savannah, Duncan and Euan, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Born in Victoria, attended Sir James Douglas, Victoria High, Craigdarroch Castle College and trained as a nurse at Royal Jubilee Hospital (Class of 1945). She worked as an R.N. in Vancouver and Victoria. Later she volunteered as a nurse in public health for over 25 years. Mom was strongly connected to her family’s pioneering roots on the Saanich peninsula. That connection allowed Frances and Don to build a beautiful home on the site of the family’s old beach house cottage on Roberts Bay in Sidney. Mom was able to realize her dream and live in their new home for 7 years. Mom maintained close ties with her high school and nursing classmates. She was affectionately known as “Nickie” by family and old friends. Remarkably, until recently, Mom had an incredible memory for people, names and events. The family often joked that she was our first computer! Mom was very social and was a card carrying member in at least 14 different groups or societies, – too many to name. While able, she tried to attend every meeting and reunion. The family would like to thank those who cared for Mom during her time at James Bay Care and Mount St. Mary Hospital. A special thank you at Mount St. Mary to the wonderful nurses in St. Luke House, pastoral care and the Reverend Sel and Joan Caradus.

The family will be arranging a celebration of life for Frances in the new year. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

To Fran’s and Don’s wonderful sons and their lovely and loving wives – you were all precious indeed to your Mother and your Father. and they were so proud to know their grandchildren. Fran was a kind and wise neighbour to us all in the Dunbar area of Vancouver. She could share and counsel and joke with all of us raising kids there. Hey what fun! And oh Fran, you always cared. My deepest condolences to all of you, her family and friends. An era has closed and we miss all that. with love…

  • Charlotte Scott and family

We lovingly remember Fran from 22nd in the Dunbar area. She was our Neighborhood Nurse and always took great care of us. Every weekday morning found many of the mothers on the street gathering in each others kitchen’s for coffee…it was a very close knit neighborhood. We are very sorry to hear of the loss of both your mother and father… it must be a very difficult time. We would love to attend a celebration of Fran’s life and look forward to hearing information about that.

    Warm Regards,
    The Scott Family

My condolences to your family. I am the wife of your mom’s cousin, Jack Fleming. I first meet you as young men when Frances and Don were living in Vancouver. We also visited with your parents
while they were living in Sidney and when your mom went to James Bay Care and Mount St Mary. The visits were always filled with family news. Would you please let me know when the date has been decided for the celebration of life. Thank you very much. June Fleming
