Frederick James Joseph Griffin

Fred passed away December 14^th, 2015 in Victoria BC at the age of 89.  He was born in Saskatoon, on the 30^th of April 1926, the fourth child of six children of Mike Griffin and Bridget White.  In 1947, the family moved to Victoria where he joined his father’s firm, Griffin & Orpwood Ltd. which later become M. Griffin Ltd.

He was involved in the construction and maintenance of many commercial buildings, hospitals, schools and pumping stations. He has been Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Victoria Council and a President of St. Vincent De Paul Society.  He opened the society’s first store in Victoria in the early 50’s.

He married his beloved Margaret Cavin in 1949 and they had 66 happy years together.

Fred was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; son, Ken; daughter in law, Victoria and his siblings, Joe, Mike, Larry and Eileen Costello.

Fred is survived by his children, Cathy, Barbara (Shaw) and Jon, Bev (Muller) and Ralph, John and Kelley, Dave and Bob and Brenda; sister, Dorothy Humphries; sister in law, Susie Griffin; brother in law, Frank Costello; his grandchildren, Laurie, Jessie, Joel, Colleen, Julie, Carson and Christopher and his great grandchildren, Dominic, Annaliese, Teagan and Nova with a fifth great grand baby on the way.

The family would like to express their grateful thanks to Dr. Neil Crofton and the staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital and VGH, especially Alberto for making his final days so comfortable.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Andrew’s Cathedral on Friday December 18^th, 2015 at 12:00 pm with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to St. Andrew’ s Cathedral.
