August 3, 1926 – September 17, 2013

Fred Jeffery passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on September 17, 2013 at the age of 87. Remembering him with love are his wife of 63 years, Peggy; children Bruce (Donna), Donna (Rudy) and Barry (Rosalind); and grandchildren Blaine (Sherry), Tyler, Jeremy (Stephanie), Alexander, and Jane; great-grandchildren Ryland and Reid; sisters Marguerite and Audrey (Earl) and brother Bill; sister in law, Bertha and brother in law, John Lenz. Fred is predeceased by his brothers Ronnie and Doug (Dorothy) and sisters Bernice and Phyllis (Murray); brother in law, Jim Hay and sister in law, Ruth Jeffery.

The sixth of eight children, Fred was born in Eston, Saskatchewan to Roy and Bessie Jeffery. Early jobs as a child, from running a trap line to helping out the milkman with his deliveries, instilled a strong work ethic that was evident throughout Fred’s life. After a brief stint in the army, Fred took the opportunity to pursue a degree in Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan and was a lifetime member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. He married the love of his life, Peggy (Eunice Margaret) in 1950 and soon afterwards they, with their infant son, moved to Quebec to begin what would be a lifelong career with ClL, managing production plants in their explosives division. Fred and Peggy spent the next 35 years moving children, pets and furniture to communities across the country as Fred’s career with CIL flourished. Fred was devoted to his family and spare hours and energies were spent with them. Some of his best days were spent boating on Georgian Bay or puttering in his garden where tomatoes, peas and corn were his specialties.

A Memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gordon Head United Church. ln lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society British Columbia or the Canadian Lung Association. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the ER and 6th floor of the Jubilee Hospital.
