Frederick William Aberle

August 31, 1943 – January 1, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fred Aberle who left us New Years Day at his home in Victoria after succumbing to a lengthy series of complicated health issues. Fred was born in Timmons, Ontario on August 31, 1943. He is survived by his wife Faye; sisters Carol Latendresse and Marie Tidd; in-laws Alan Pritchard and Laurine Didier, Lorraine Pritchard and Stan Phillips, Lynne and Wayne Sanderson; plus nieces, nephews and the host of lifelong friends too numerous to mention in this small space.

Fred left an impression on virtually everyone he met throughout his teaching career and in his second calling as a highly successful pharmaceutical representative. He was a keen competitor, a compassionate mentor, a gifted storyteller, a connoisseur of fine wine and a music lover. His immense generosity knew no bounds. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband to Faye, whom he met in 1967 while they were both teaching in Deloraine, Manitoba. They wed the following year. When Faye contracted Multiple Sclerosis in the early eighties, Fred embarked on a new path as that of her healthcare champion. This became his lifelong priority eclipsing even his own health issues that surfaced in recent years. He will be remembered always as a devoted husband, a stand-out neighbour and loyal friend.

The family wishes to especially acknowledge and thank both Alison Lockhart, for being a friend and advocate in Fred’s time of need, and the staff of Beacon Community Services for the love, care and compassion they have provided.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at McCall’s Downtown,1400 Vancouver Street, Victoria, BC on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated. Condolences may be expressed  to the family below.

  1. Dear Faye and all your family and wonderful friends, We are very saddened by Fred’s passing. We looked at him with wonder at the amount of energy and devotion he had for you. One of my fondest memories is him coming to Aberdeen with your commode on the back seat of his car. There was nothing that he could not make happen with his energy and enthusiasm. He taught me a great deal and I am so grateful to have known him. With our loving thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and caregivers.

  4. Dear Faye,
We are deeply saddened by the news of Fred’s passing. He was always such a goof and a real character. His keen understanding of the human condition and quick wit will be missed by everyone. We will always remember his cherubic face light up when enjoying a great conversation or telling his stories. A few words here do not seem to be enough, but hope they will convey that our thoughts are with you.
    Many Hugs.

  5. Dear Faye,
Lynda and I are saddened by the loss of your dear Freddy.
My many encounters with Fred as a Fellow ‘Frossty, were memorable, to say the least. One of my fondest memories was hearing him recite a childs poem,( or short story) from memory, backwards!
It shall always be a pleasure to have known Fred. Many more may well say the same.
May you always feel the warmth of Fred from every sun ray!

  7. When I arrived in Victoria from Toronto to practise, Fred was quick to introduce me to the community of physicians by promoting education. This was his forte. He made things happen and his zeal to achieve a positive outcome was infectious. We all benefitted from his approach. He made me feel right at home in the Victoria community from the moment I arrived. I mourn his passing.

  8. Dear Faye and Family:

Fred was always happy and smiling and made others happy. He was never materialistic and was content with his situation/what he had. He was always looking at how he can help others (even his competitors) as he knew that by doing the right thing everyone will do well and will be rewarded accordingly. I have lot of fond memories when we were in Winnipeg during coffee at the office, waiting in doctor’s offices, meetings, lunch at Salisbury, Christmas dinners in hotels and many parties hosted by Merck Frosst Friends.
Fred was one of a kind gentleman, will be missed by all and we will remember him forever. I was fortunate to have met Fred and enjoyed his company and advice. I always learned something from him even during a small talk.
Fred will be missed and our hearts go out to Faye and all his friends and family members.
Faye, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time difficult time.

  9. Dear Faye and Family;

Our sincere condolences on the passing of our friend Freddie.

Freddie was bigger than life, and by example, he became the inspiration for so many of our colleagues at MFCL. In his own way he exposed our weaknesses and insecurities. However his true value for me was his expression of love for his fellow man and his untiring will to help others less fortunate. Unfortunately his spirit could not bear the weight any longer.

May he rest in peace and he will not be forgotten.

  10. Faye, our heartfelt condolences on your loss. As we all know, Freddie Frosst’s spirit touched everyone he met on so many levels. His generosity and compassion was evident to all he meet. We cherish the time we worked and socialized together. It was an honour and privilage to have been friends with such a remarkable person. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
