Hi, this is Jim originally from Glasgow (Scotland). I just literally found out about Gail and I am so sorry to hear this news. I corresponded with Gail for many years in relation to her search for her past in Scotland – Paisley and Stranraer areas. I recall sending her a small stone I picked up in Paisley and sending her photos when I visited the town and Stranraer. I noticed over the last few years that the emails had stopped and she wasn’t responding to mine. Then there were no Christmas cards. She spoke often of her late husband Mike and I know she was devastated when he passed away. She also told me about the Scottish butcher shop she visited and it transpired the owners were from Milngavie, literally a few miles from where I was born and where I used to stay. I offered to send her cans of haggis but she declined as the Canadian authorities would probably not allow the food items to enter the country. My very best wishes. Regards. Jim

My brothers Russ and Roy and I send our condolences to the boys. As it happens, I was thinking of Cousin Gail just the other day. She used to babysit us when we were little, and I was remembering the time when I was 5, and she promised me that if I went to bed and didn’t get up she’d make a dress for one of my dolls. She came through, of course, and with the love of a 5-year-old, I wished she could be my big sister instead of just my cousin. We met again as adults through her dedication to the family genealogy. I’m sure she is once again with Mike, the love of her life.

    Don and Duayne,

Your Mom was such a good friend. I always thought of her as my cousin although we weren’t related by blood. I suppose we are really related by love and respect. I will miss her deeply.

Don, it was a shock to hear my dear friend, Gail, had passed but God’s promise is eternal life with no more pain or sorrow. I know that Gail, too, held tight to that belief. That is meant to bring us all comfort in our times of grief. I will miss my very special friend as it is rare to have a friendship last 75 years. So many memories of earlier days in Victoria and many, many letters and emails over the years talking about our “kids”. I like to think she is looking down at us all with Mike, George and Graham by her side sharing wonderful stories. I pray God’s comfort for each one of you as you carry on your lives. Please keep in touch. Love always, “Auntie” Rene.
