It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Garry Kwan on the evening of March 5, 2026, in his hometown and birthplace in Victoria, B.C. Born in October 7, 1966, he passed on peacefully with his mother and daughter by his aid in the comfort of his home. Garry lived a life full of hardships, unwavering dedication, but always had a smile on his face when you would see him.

Garry is survived by his mother, his wife and his beloved daughter. He will be dearly missed by his sisters, nephew, niece and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Gin Nam “Dick” Kwan in October 2021.

A hardworking and steadfast provider, Garry spent nearly 40 years as a full-time employer at the Fairmont Empress Hotel, where he formed many lasting friendships. For more than a decade, he also worked housekeeping at various senior care facilities, eventually securing three full time jobs to support his family. Garry carried on his father and grandfather’s hard-working ethics. As a first-generation Chinese born Canadian, Garry loved rock and metal music. He found great joy in spending his free time fishing and making custom jewellery for himself, his family and friends.

Garry was known for his positive outlook, gentle nature, and the genuine warmth he brought to those around him. Garry approached every situation with a smile, especially when he could help others. He was a reliable and loving son, he helped to care for his elderly mother even after he was diagnosed with cancer. Garry spent most of his free time around his mother, wife and beloved daughter, listening to music and watching classic movies and shows like Friends, Dallas, Dukes of Hazard, Charlies Angels, Halloween or anything horror related.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 10am in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria B.C. Interment will follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Garry will be remembered for his kindness and selfless attitude when it came to helping others, his tireless dedication and the love he shared so generously. Garry will be remembered for being the most loving dad, husband and son. His family will miss him greatly and will continue to live on through his daughter, wife and many others who were a part of his legacy.

    I worked 20 years at the Empress and Gary worked night shift and sometimes I worked in the middle of the night. Gary was always quiet but friendly nice big smile on its face. I am so sad to hear this news as he was so young hugs and love to all the family and may he rest in peace, Heather Buchan and Wayne Downs.
